Has anyone tried this lens on a Pen-F? I wonder if it will feel too big and clumsy on that camera?

I've got this sitting on my desk. The 12-45 is smaller than the 14-150 so to me it doesn't seem clumsy at all. Obviously, bigger than the 12mm Pro and slower. But I think it's an excellent combo. My pal has the 12-40 Pro, so we could compare those two side by side: the Pro is bigger, heavier, faster and more expensive but he won't be trading to get the 12-45. I like my new lens! It may become my travel combo.

You have the lens on your Pen F for some time now. Do you have any further comments? In particular, any attribute that really stands out, good or bad? I'm considering ordering the lens for my Pen F.

Hi Jim--

I seem to have replaced the 14-150 with the 12-45 as the "usual" lens. This even though I often shoot at the long end of the zoom. Someday I'm going to get that 40-150 Pro and maybe a second Pen F body. I'd encourage you to order one from someplace with a good return policy so you can try it out for a while. It appears that lensrentals.com doesn't offer the 12-45 yet though they do carry the 12-40: $53 for a week, I think.

Cheers,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

No need for me to try one first. I own the 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro for three years now. While it's fine on my Pen F (much better on my E-M1.2), I have a bit of cash and I have long wanted a high-quality replacement for the 14-42mm and the 14-42mm EZ kit lenses. It seems the 12-45mm Pro might just be the ticket.

Thanks for your comments.

By the way, that 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro works just fine on a Pen F. Just be sure to use the Olympus grip. I do find that adding the MC-14 or MC-20 to the zoom on the Pen F is not a great experience. Pen F autofocus is not state of the art, and becomes further compromised with the teleconverters.

I anxiously await an updated Pen F if the rumors turn out to be true. If only the autofocus comes up to E-M1.2/3 standards, with few other changes, I will be thrilled.

Yes, CAF up to more-or-less M5iii standards plus weather sealing would do it for me, and it would become my main Street and light Travel body.

I’d use it a lot with the PL 15mm, I’m sure.

For a camera that Oly tried very hard to kill off officially, there have been such persistent rumours that there must be a decent chance of it appearing.

I’m sure they could make it attractive to other markets as well, especially to the Japanese style/blog lot who buy so many of the PL series currently. So, keep it stylish and make it available in white, and include plenty of video upgrades: most of us here wouldn’t be much bothered by that, but it would surely fit as an upgrade for that market as well.

I tried it and didn't like it, but that doesn't mean I want it gone! I hope they add EM5.3 specs + a tilting EVF and refloat it. It's a lovely camera.

Though these days it is glued to my E-M1 mk II. The smaller 12-45 is perfect for smaller cameras like the Pen.
