I think I have narrowed my digital camera search down to the Epson 850Z versus the Toshiba PDRM 5. Any comments or suggestions?

Here are a couple of review you might look at.

My personal choice would the the Epson 850Z for a several reasons.
1. I prefer the compact flash over smartmedia
2. I prefer AA batteries over special (expensive) battery packs.

3. The Toshiba has a significantly slower lens (f3.5) than the Epson 805Z (f2.0) so low light might be a problem for the Toshiba.
4. The Epson has more manual controls.

5. The Epson has a hot shoe (Which is nessary if using the lens adapter up close since it creates a shadow when using the built in flash. Sham on Epson.)

Area of question for the Epson 850Z.

1. There has been complaint about the images from the 850Z having a blue cast.

2. The Toshiba appears to more sturdy constructed in the area around the lens assemble. The 850Z uses a flimsy leaf shutter for a lens cap.

Thanks for the great info. The one swaying factor may be the price. Toshiba is running a $100. rebate through the end of the year.

Since cost is a major factor for you, have you considered the Olympus 450Z or Epson 750Z? They are both fine camera. They don't have 2 megapixel imagers but for if you are willing to trade features and performance with the Toshiba vs the Epson 850Z for cost then it is something to think about.
