Hello,

Currently I'm using Sony alpha 6300 with 4 lenses:

1. Sony 16-70 f/4

2. Sony 10-18 f/4

3. Sony 70-200 f/4

4. Canon 50 f/1.8 STM with MC-11 adapter

I'm also considering to add telezoom lens, like Sigma 100-400 C or 150-600 C, since 200mm (even on APS-C body) isn't enough for my usage.

I also know that the 10-18 and the 16-70 aren't full frame lenses.

My main usage for the camera is planespotting, so I need a fast and accurate focus.

but, I'm also using It for photography during trips, so It must be good at low light conditions (I sure It'll do well in daylight conditions).

Two options considered:

1. Sony alpha 7 mk2

2. Sony alpha 7 mk3

I also know that the mk3 is better, but should I pay almost twice for It?

I would like to read your comments about those cameras for my usage.

Thanks.

Thank You,

It seems that the mk3 is better choice for my usage.

But does It perform good enough with the MC-11 with 100-400 C or 150-600 C?

The A7Rii is usually around $1000 used. It has faster AF than the A7ii and 4K video.

Obviously not as fast as the A7iii.

Before two weeks I saw this camera for sell in a shop for this price.

I tried to find any information about the focus system, It seems that It's not fast like the focus system in the A7 mk3.

Is the difference is big?

The A7Rii AF is better than the A7ii, especially for adapted lenses. However the A7iii is going to smoke both of them if you need AF speed or speed in general.

If It can offer focus speed close to my Sony a6300, I'll be OK with that.

The opinions are quite mixed about the 100-400 C,

of course the Sony 100-400 GM is the best lens for this focal length, but It's too expensive.

I really don't know what to do.

I can't rental the Sigma 100-400 C since there's no one who rent It in my country.

I can't buy a lens and return It due to the laws in my country. You can't return a used product, You must return It in the original condition.

I want to upgrade my photography gear, but I don't want to spend too much.

And compared to the A7 II R?

I know almost for sure that the focus system in the A7 III is good for my usage.

I own the A7Ii and A7RIII. AF on the III is miles ahead of the II. Skip the II unless you are a landscape/cityscape photographer.

Better stick with your a6300. I’m afraid your keeper rate is going to be tiny with an older body and adapted lens. Esp. if you can’t return it.

Thank You for your comment, I may edit my post and remove the A7 mk2.

I'm not sure that I understood your comment.

BTW, The A7 mk3 is older than the A6300? I'm quite sure It's the opposite, so I don't know what you meant.

I was referring to a7 II. But in any case, keeper rate will be low with adapted lens according to the videos I’ve watched. No return policy, not a good idea to spend thousands for a system that might not be adequate.

I talked with the official reseller of Sigma in my country,

currently the lens is not available to purchase (since It's not in stock), but They said that I'll be able to test the lens before I buy It.

Do You think It'll help to find if the lens is good for my usage or not?

Is the reseller located near an airport? 😂

If the budget is limited, I would rather keep the A6300 and consider a fast focusing sharp tele lens, Sony 100-400 or maybe 200-600.

Here’s one:

For SONY users.

Written for: Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary Lens for Canon EF

Some useful information for Sony Users: I use a A7m3. Received the 100-400mm today. Out of the box I put it on with the MC-11 adapter and had a test drive. It was absolutely terrible. Autofocus beyond slow. Could not lock onto even basic scenes with high contrast. I was a little dismayed but knew that I hadn't checked the firmware was upto date. So plugged in the MC-11. Update available. Downloaded. Also took the time then to plug in the lens and it too had a firmware update so updated that. Took about 5 minutes. Very simple, nicely done process. Loaded everything back on the camera and holding my breath turned it on. Autofocus was stunning. Quick, responsive and precise. An entirely new experience thankfully than before. After reviewing some of the photos and a variety of focal lengths was very pleasantly surprised at the results. Mostly very good sharpness across the frame from wide open, nice contrast and colours. Lens build is great and feels good on the camera. With the adapter it would be around 1.4kg or so. So about the same as the faster Sony 100-400GM and about 600g lighter than the Sony 200-600G. Having used the Sony GM once before (renting it) the image quality in my opinion is not much better than the sigma. I would guess the sigma is at least 95% as good as the sony for IQ. But the autofocus still slightly better and the IS better on the Sony. However the sigma for me feels better in the hand. So for a non-pro the Sigma on the Sony is a no-brainer for me. A third the price and almost as good as the Sony. If you really need the extra speed of the Sony or shooting at pro level maybe spend the US$2500 on the Sony - otherwise the Sigma with MC-11 adapter is great on the A7m3 for US$800.
