I got to try the combo out at WPPI. It was a comfortable hold with given the weight of the two being relatively light. I tried it outside hoping to find some landscape and did not experience any problems ralative to the lcd. It takes the same battery as the DP Quattro and as one of the Panosonic models. Wasabi among others sell batteries. AF was fast and accurate. I shot DNG+JPEG. The camera, at least as set up, cannot display DNGs. Everything was hand-held. The lens seems to be a good performer. I did not get to try any ofhter lenses. I shot from ISO 1250 to ISO 2000.

SPP is on the slow side with the DNG files. Also the "auto" function needs to be fine-tuned as it continuallly underexposed the images. One thing I liked about the old SD14/15/DP1/2/s/x was that auto SPP generally got very good results. Not so here.

Kendall shot some video. He also tried an SA mount lens with an adapter. I know he had somelock-up issues but we didn't think he had the latest firmware.

Here are a few shots, full res:

If SPP is on the slow side and the fp files (given the Bayer sensor) can easily be opened in LR or similar then I'd be interested to know how many here use SPP when opening fp files? Open question.....

Thanks for sharing those images Rick: I think the chick flick are best images, thanks for sharing! ;)

I have the 45mm with the S1 and I like that pairing a lot.

The fp would be really nice with LightRoom on the iPad as DNG processing doesn't require a Creative Cloud license. :)

Those high-ISO shots look spectacular Rick. Thanks for posting those.

The lens seems to be a good performer.
Yes, it appears to be a decent lens for the price, despite two of its annoyances.

It's focus by wire only which I don't like, but I can live with that, given the price point.

The aperture ring, albeit an electronic one and not de-clickable, would be a nice touch...
if only it wasn't turning the wrong way! D'oh!

Unless you're a seasoned Nikonist, the aperture ring is a mirror image of a 'proper' aperture ring, and the A mode is on the wrong end of the aperture dial.
Which is highly annoying, since it will dial the aperture in the opposite direction your muscle memory is telling you to turn it. Unless you're one of those "left handed" Nikon shooters.
Furthermore, since the auto aperture mode is next to the smallest aperture, it means every time you turn it away from the A mode, you'll end up with the dimmest aperture first, and then have to turn it (in the wrong direction) to get to the aperture you want. When you're shooting in manual mode it would be more practical to set the A mode on the open end of the aperture scale.

Oh well, fortunately you can leave the aperture ring into the A position and just dial the aperture in the camera body. But IMO that sort of makes the aperture ring rather pointless. A missed opportunity.

I haven't noticed such thing. Unless you're referring to some other 'auto' function...

Apart from the usual slowness of the SPP I haven't noticed any issues with the fp shots so far. More like business as usual, only with a Bayer filter sensor.

Based on firmware 1.01, some older SA lenses may seem to focus poorly on AF, but most newer EX and the A/S/C lenses have been working fine. A bit slower than native L-mount lenses, obviously, but besides that they've been quite usable. The older the lens, the more focusing issues in AF mode., but aperture seems to work normally. As for video shooting, you're likely use MF, anyway.

Am I correct that photos 2, 3, 6 and 7 are out-of-camera JPEGs?

Pretty solid in-camera processing in that case.

Edit: And the outdoor shot shows excellent sharpness corner-to-corner from the little 45mm.

Rick,

Nice lighting on the studio shots, and pretty models. The iso 1600 looked good, even with that horrid convention center lighting. Most of the shots, but the outdoor one in particular, I found disappointingly "Bayer", a little "waxy". Granted, the FP makes a better case as a film body, and the pics are probably good enough for most uses. Are you happy with the results?

Have a great weekend

Scot

1,4,6,7 shot JPEG+DNG and used the jpeg unprocessed

2,5 shot JPEG only and used the jpeg unprocessed.

3 shot DNG and edited in SPP

I didn't use the camera enough to really judge it. I don't have an interest in the video aspect.

This is confusing, because EXIF of shots 1, 4 and 5 report Software as Adobe Photoshop, while shots 2, 3, 6 and 7 report it as "SIGMA fp Ver.1.01.0.V78" as one expects from straight-out-of-camera files.

It's no Foveon, but I found the colors of the outdoor shot to be rather pleasing for the ISO setting. My dp2 Quattro would be more than waxy at 2,000 (!).

Thanks for that. Gave me food for thought. With all the portrait stuff I did take some blemishes off using photoshop healing tool. I you are interested in seeing any of the DNG, I can zip them up and make them availafble online. Only the pool shot had any substantial editing.
