You immediately think, I just paid $1,000 (when all is said and done) for the same camera.

No box redesign. Saving money here.

The camera looks like the Mark II except for a couple of buttons.

The camera feels a teeny bit lighter.

The grip's been improved as if it needed to be in the first place! You really can hold this thing comfortably with three fingers as you walk around (suggest wrist strap though).

It doesn't sound faster.

Same confusing and/or daunting menu system.

You can't get to the alternate "Super Control Panel" intuitively. I guess I'll have to dive into the manual.

Muscle memory definitely will be thrown off for a time. Menu button on the left side.

Nice. The ISO button.

The "joystick" works at least with the AF area.

No flash.

Realization sets in. I did just pay $1,000 (when all is said and done) for the same camera!

Least where I live I can commence shooting right away to get a little more enthused.

Still waiting for mine, "Awaiting Stock" at WEX in the UK. Did you get a discount on trade in?

UK Authorised dealers are offering a free copy of Capture One with each pre order, not a trade in, trade up deal. I've always wanted to try it so quite happy with that offer.

Olympus btw, have stopped accepting pre orders on their UK website due to high Demand.

To quote "Due to high demand this item is no longer available for pre-order."

The camera was on backorder at Adorama so I went with B&H. BTW getting $550 trade in from B&H + the $200 rebate. I normally sell my cameras on ebay, I am avoiding paying their fees and shipping to buyer. B&H sent me a pre-paid FedEx shipping label and will take care of (I think) the rebate processing. Buying from B&H or Adorama, I avoid paying sales tax living in Florida. So the ultimate price is $1050 with no real hassles. Possibly could get more selling on ebay based on current market.

The Olympus website says the mk3 comes with the same bundled FL-LM3 as the mk2

Was the little flash not in the box?

thanks,

Lory
It was NOT bundled with my mk3.

Not included with my E-M1 Mkiii.

£625 UK trade in at WEX, not a bad offer for 3 yr old E-M1.2. Could have got £80-90 more on eBay but trade in avoids the wait and uncertainty (and hassle).

However, you got a printed manual.

Same confusing and/or daunting menu system.
The My Menu solves that problem. You can setup as many as 5 Menus, with each having multiple entries

I immediately setup *1 Menu with my most used Menu items

AF Limiter(can change quickly in the field) , Reset/Custom Modes (modify current Custom modes), ISO -Auto Set (change Max/min ISO and Lowest SS in the field), Card Setup (format/erase cards), and Quick Sleep Mode (turn on when I am mostly hiking)

Setup *2 - AF Mode and Set Home.

These will almost certainly change and additions made with use, but I now rarely will need to go through multiple Menus to get the things I common modify.
You can't get to the alternate "Super Control Panel" intuitively. I guess I'll have to dive into the manual.
If you mean the current shooting information, just hit the INFO button.
Muscle memory definitely will be thrown off for a time. Menu button on the left side.
Yes that will take time to adapt to the new button positions.
Nice. The ISO button.

The "joystick" works at least with the AF area.
Most valuable addition for quick focus point changes for butterfly/insect photography with the 300mm especially with the MC20.
No flash.

Looks like I'd better call Olympus America; it clearly shows the flash when comparing with the MK2; shows both cameras come with bundled flash.

Someone is buying my MK2 and I was including the flash, under the impression I was getting another one with the MK3.

Maybe that's why it's $1800 USD MSRP ? :-)

Not sure what to think about that. On one end I can understand Olympus not bundling a flash in that tier, a flash people may ignore and get a bigger one.

That's an $1800 camera plus 15% tax in Canada, $2100 when everything is said and done!

I thought nation-wide mail order places were collecting state sales tax now?

No flash in the manual either......
