For those of you who have the xf 90, what are the situations in which you use it? I’m thinking about trying it out, and I understand that it is primarily a portrait lens. But I’ve also read that people use it in a variety of situations. What is your experience?
Thanks!

Thank you! When you shoot indoors with the 90, do you ever find that you have to use a flash?

I find it to be a nice focal length. I really like it for landscapes and getting candid shots since you aren’t so close as to intrude on the moment.

Portraits, low light sports (ie soccer in rainy vancouver), high speed sports (skiing). It has an awesomely fast AF.

I use it a lot! Best Fuji lens IMHO.

I bought it primarily for sports photography (active kids + dog) but I'll use it whenever I can because it's the best lens in my bag in terms of image quality.

For indoor portraits, I tend to lean on the 56f1.2 over the 90.

As many others, I think the is a very nice lens for a lot of things. I have mainly shot portraits with it, but also travel and some sports. I have not tried landscapes, and no doubt it would be very nice as well, but for a longer trek where weight is important, I would probably choose a more versatile zoom lens.

For portraits, events and sports, it will always be in my bag.

Excellent lens (and FL) for dog (and cats) portraits which I do a lot. Mainly outdoors, but sometimes in studio, too (when I need narrower FOV).

For human portraits it´s nice for whole body shots that come out very dignified, with nice background compression. Or for tight headshots, where the face is not distorted by you being too close to your subject.

And also for some action shots, the AF is great. Both outdoors and indoors. Wherever the FL fits. (I´ve shot dance competition with it, dog training action shots, etc.).

Thank you, everyone! Your responses have been very helpful. I see the versatility in this lens. I am going to add it to my lenses (right now I have 16 1.4, 35 1.4, 55-200)

16, 35 and 90 is a very good combo. This is what I have as well but instead of the 35 1.4, I have the Mitakon 0.95. like a lot of people here, I find the 90mm very versatile with its sharpness, reach, and minimum focus distance. It's my favourite street photography lens as it's quick and stealthy. It's also my favourite outdoor portrait lens.

Thanks so much for your input. I am really looking forward now to exploring with the 90. I already love the 16 and 35.

Another one to add to the wish list !. I may have to come out of retirement & get a job. My short list is getting longer , with a couple of others I have in mind.
