Upgrade from XT-2 to XT-4 or wait for X-H2

I shoot mostly landscapes and travel, no video, no sports, RAW shooter, no film simulations.

It would seem like the only compelling reason to upgrade from the xt2 to xt4 is IBIS, which is definitely a big deal (thinking travel interiors with my 23/1.4. As to the sensor, dynamic range, resolution and overall image quality they are even. The X-H2 is rumored to bring a 'better' sensor and ostensibly improved IQ, but it's all rumor and vaporware for now.

Thoughts?

Want an IBIS? Get an x-h1 for half the price of x-t4. If you won't be benefiting from the other features, image quality alone is not any different with x trans 4.

Even the rumor says the X-H2 will not come in 2020 (if it does at all). So that can be ignored. If IBIS is what you want go and get that X-H1! You won't regret it. I recently bought a second one. If the X-H2 has that new 48MP sensor it's obviously an improvement but if you don't need FF resolution now, why in the future?

I just bought a new X-T3, coming from an X-T2. I didn't buy the 3 when it came out because at the time it didn't seem that much of an upgrade. However, with the firmware upgrades it MUCH better than the 2.

Looking at the rumored features of the upcoming 4, there wasn't much that impressed me for what I need. I'm not interested in IBIS, because of the increased weight, (my 50-140 has OIS which is good enough for me) and same goes for the battery.

I've used my 56 F1.2, and 16 f1.4 while travelling, and never really felt the need for IBIS. I shoot manually almost all the time.

I hardly ever use the flip screen; I really don't even chimp, so that's not important to me.

I don't do video either, nor sports, or really anything that requires focus tracking. Apparently, the focus tracking is much improved with the new firmware for the 3, but I wouldn't know.

I think you really need to seriously consider your needs, and figure out what's important for you.

Good luck!

My opinion is that waiting newer brings in photographs. I do not own a Fuji at this time, my last one was a Fuji S5Pro DSLR. However, I follow Fuji news and know a few competent Fuji landscape photographers.

As far as I see the present X-T3 is an excellent landscape tool. The X-T4 gets a lot of bad words from forum users but that is "normal". There is always a crowd that likes picking apart a new tool without ever laying a hand on it.

The X-T4 will be available soon enough. So, if I would want to buy a Fuji camera in the close future that is what I would get. It may not be head and shoulder above the X-T3 as of image quality but the IBIS alone will make sure that a lot more hand held keepers will be created with it. That would be my reason to get it over the already excellent X-T3.

As of the X-H2? That is a rumour for further down the road. A lot of photographs can be taken with the X-T4 before the X-H2 will materialize.

Best, AIK

If I had the XT2 instead of the XT3 which I do have, I would upgrade to the XT4 for several reasons, the sensor, IBIS, battery

I thought IQ between the XT2 and XT3 was much the same despite the newer sensor?

For his use IBIS will only be so so useful. Its mostly useful in low light and for video. Useless for landscapes unless handheld shots. Also good for longer focal lengths to help steady the shot. Less so for wideangles.

Couple of options:

- get a nice tripod and use the T2 till the H2 is out

- get a H1 and wait (and enjoy handholding shots)

Unless you need the AF speeds, I would not rush to get the T4. Let the initial issues get sorted out. I will wait a bit - have a H1 (for IBIS) and a X-pro1 (for the true original Fuji SOOC look).

I think you nailed it. I would agree that unless someone needs the AF speed or full sensor phase detection, XH1 is a great bargain option to get the IBIS.
