CTF Mini Challenge #8: -- Amazing Architecture --

This photo isn't perfect, but I was intrigued by the subject--flying buttresses on a mid-20th century warehouse!

Great image, Steve. I love the monochrome, and the lines are strong--complicated, yet basically all vertical. Those buttresses don't seem to be working, though, as the building seems to be falling backwards!

cheers,

I haven't seen any posts of a building detail - so here's one by Frank Furness:

It's on 22nd Street at Spruce in Philadelphia.

After careful deliberation, I hereby announce the winners of this mini challenge:

First Place:

by Pops!

I love the perspective and the sense of scale exhibited in this photograph. The rich colors and burned out highlights on the windows add to the charm & grandeur.

Second Place:

by Frank Berger

The shapes & colors make this more like an art deco abstract. Very easy on the eyes. If only it were more symmetrical, this could've easily earned the number one spot.

Third Place (tie):

by Philip Ganderton

I love stairways shots. This one is particularly effective because of the color combination and the green chair at the bottom.

by Steve Walsh

B&W was the appropriate choice to render the sense of abandonment & stark, cold feel of the photograph.

Congratulations to Pops! for the First Place spot and everybody else that participated. I had fun looking at your submissions.

Pops! Time to start a new mini challenge.

Regards,

Thanks, Ray! Excellent topic, very good participation and entries, and you see me flabbergasted for my 2nd prize - didn't think I had a chance this time, so many EXCELLENT shots!

Congrats to Pops - for me a well deserved winner and also a very special picture since I was there at about the same time. Looking forward to the next one,
-Frank
