I hate large phones. I am very excited to see what apple does with the 9. I am hoping they up the camera game in it compared to my 8. Give us home button lovers some camera love. i cannot stand the direction of the iphone with swypey and farceID. I am hoping they keep the home button, touchID and give us a pixel competitor camera in the 9! Who else is with me?

I might upgrade my SE if it has a decent camera. I'd be willing to pay more for a high quality small phone. Don't need the ultra wide - just standard and longer lenses.

Yes, I really just want the camera from the pixel 3 in the iphone 8 body. That would be a winner for me. The new 9 will not have dual cameras, only a single snapper. But as long as they bake in all the camera software tricks like night shot, portrait mode, etc I would be getting two.

He's using an iphone 4S 16GB and always out of space 😂

If the iPhone 9/SE 2 will be the size of the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 4.7" screen, I will be less excited about it. Hoping for a 4" phone replacement. Dimension wise, Sony had done it before with their Xperia X Compact model.

Be prepared to be dissapointed. The new phone will be pretty well exactly like the iphone 8. I am just hoping they pull some camera magic out of their butt with the 9.

It is now quite usable compared to earlier models. The SE initially had a 16GB base model followed with 64GB. Later, the SE went to 32GB and 128GB storage.

The rumour is that the iPhone 9/SE2 will have 64GB and 128GB of storage. I will go with 128GB.

I have a friend with a 16GB iPhone 4, 4s for 5 who kept deleting stuff. Backed up to iTunes, presumably. I doubt he is using any of those phones anymore.

Will the headphone Jack still exist for the iPhone 9/SE 2 as it does for the iPad mini 5?

I was just digging through a utility drawer and found my old 4S and 5S. I decided to see what they were worth on eBay. In my search, I learned that Verizon as of the first of the year no longer services the voice protocol for phones that old as they develop 5G.

In essence, my old phones became iPods, which is fine. I love the face detection and the extra screen space getting rid of that clunky home button provides. After using my 11 for the last three months, the old phones just seem weird now. For most people, this is progress. Everybody has their own jam though, so no judging here.

The touchID is coming back for the new iphones as well, just not yet. apple know they made a mistake removing it. People want to unlock their phones without picking it up, for example if you have it in the dock in the car, you want to be able to just unlock it. If it's on the desk and you want to check notifications you don't need or want to pick it up, just touch the home button. Apple pay is the big one. Face ID misfires quite a bit with my friends and family who has them. My finger print sensor works way more reliably. I am at the store, and I have my apple pay ready to roll before my phone comes out of my pocket. Just tap and im done. No looking at my phone etc. It's all done through touch ID.

Then comes to operation, having to swype "closed" apps, that are not closed. swype again to close. I just double hit my home button and then just tap closed my apps. nothing running in the background eating up battery and resources.

Then, there is the FUGLY notch. I would rather have the bezels than that notch. At least the bezels look clean and symmetrical instead of the goiter like afterthought of the notch.

Do they? Because if they thought it was a mistake, wouldn't all models be going back to it? I haven't seen that announcement yet. I would be surprised as hell if they did that. Might as well put an RCA jack back into the damn things and go full retro.

Some people might. I don't. When my phone if docked in my car, it is also charging, so I just leave it on.
If it's on the desk and you want to check notifications you don't need or want to pick it up, just touch the home button.
Depending on how long your phone is set to require a Face ID log in, this can also be a non factor. The only time I really need to face ID is in the morning. Rest of the day its just a simple tap on the screen and it's on.

I have yet to have face ID misfire.

This is really following the theme of personal preference. It's great that you saved the .75 of a second.
Then comes to operation, having to swype "closed" apps, that are not closed. swype again to close. I just double hit my home button and then just tap closed my apps. nothing running in the background eating up battery and resources.
Again, I pretty much Face ID once in the morning.

You are the first person I have ever seen that thinks the notch is worse than the smaller screen interface and a home button. "Goiter like afterthought" suggests strong emotional opinions on let's face it, a fairly insignificant thing. Kind of a common theme with this whole post.

You like your home button, that's fine. Nobody can tell you not to. But what I can tell you is that your opinions are just opinions, not gospel to Apple or necessarily even remotely in the majority. Let's revisit this when the 12 gets announced and see how much all of this is based in fact.

I suspect we will be disappointed the the actual iPhone 9/SE 2 appears.

I might finally upgrade my iPhone 7 because I still want a something small like iPhone 6 which is kinda handy when taking photos. Also the cheap price for a new model appeals to me.

I would be excited but apparently it will be for the iPhone 9 Plus. I won't look at big phones, so I will be less excited. I love it on my Sony Xperia XZ1

From the rumors I have seen I am definitely not excited. It looks exactly like an iPhone 7.

The best iPhone ever made, IMO, was the 5s. The size, design, screen size was all perfect. I would buy an updated version without a doubt. I hate the big phones.

The 9/SE2 is supposed to start at $399. The iPhone 7 started at $699. And beauty is more than skin deep. It’s supposedly a recycled hardware design. I've heard it's supposed to be similar to an 8. But whatever, the buyer probably doesn't care about wireless charging and a glass body. Hopefully they don’t cripple the camera too badly.

News of a possible 9 Plus is encouraging, on the camera front (two lenses).

I know the buyers. They don’t want to pay $600 for a smartphone. But they like Apple and they’re in the ecosystem. They want the familiar and the basics, and they want it to last 3 to 4 years. And then there’s the new to Apple, the switcher market who want a low price.

Yeah, I think the iPhone 5s (8 megapixels) took better looking images than the 12 megapixel iPhone SE.

I think what you say is the problem - Apple will prioritize low price over premium quality and small form factor - I'd prefer the other way around.

Apple might be working on a foldable phone. The size, closed, will be about the size of a 5s/SE but it won’t be cheap.

That would be interesting - so long as they don't skimp on the camera (and its not too thick)
