Well I finally purchased the P950, especially since Nikon was offering the Red Dot Site for free via redemption.

Looking forward to trying it out with BIFs :-)

..Thanks for sharing this video!..

..yes, both the P1000, and now the P950, can use the red dot site..

..which is a wonderful tool for capturing bird-in-flights..

..and I feel is even more useful for the P950, because of the P950 cameras better & faster taking of pictures and increased bufferings..

..Cheers, John..

This may be stupid question, but what red dot sight helps compared to looking through EVF?
..Great question!..

..traditionally speaking, it's the electronic view finder's lag time responses..

..but seems the new P950 and improved responses from seeing many here have already able to capture birds-in-flights..

..therefore, for the P950, having the red dot sire may not be totally necessary..

..Cheers, John..

The DF-M1 Dot Sight is designed to be used with select Nikon cameras. When attached to the camera's hot-shoe, it assists you in acquiring distant subjects by acting as a zoomed-out targeting device. Just line up the subject in the Dot Sight at a normal field of view to easily track it at extreme magnifications.

Ideal for acquiring and tracking distant and fast-moving subjects, the DF-M1 Dot Sight from Nikon is dedicated to the COOLPIX P950 digital camera, and benefits making full use of the extremely long focal length range. This dot sight attaches to the camera via its hot shoe and provides a clear, lag-free means for aligning subjects. It has selectable red and green dot colors, to suit different lighting conditions; adjustable brightness; and its folding design protects it when not in use.

Where did you get the good(free) deal?

Lucky! My Nikon Life must be exclusive to Australia & New Zealand. I'm searching for it in the USA.
I believe it is only for Australia and it finishes at the end of the month.

The red dot sight was made somewhat popular by Olympus with their SP100EE camera from 2014. With a bit of practice, it worked well. The camera itself did not sell well, especially since Oly was focused on their M4/3 cameras and rightfully so. If any camera has a hot shoe, these sight devices fit on and may help with pinpointing birds, planes, birds in thick brush, sports action, etc. Lots of choices out there.

..have a question for you.. do you know when the Kodak AZ1000 camera going to be released is the US?.. or maybe where to buy one?..

..from a previous post of yours, seems you have a copy of the AZ1000.. how do you feel it's improvements from the AZ901 camera?..

..thanks!..

..Cheers, John..

I have a pre-production AZ1000, but not sure if it will be released in US. It's a improvement over the AZ901 with regards to offering 4k video (can also shoot 1080p) and it feels faster with regards to FPS and write speed. The IQ seems a slight bit better at the far end. Like all of their AZ cameras, they do macro very well. Their AZ528 with 52X reach hits a sweet spot of 16MP and sharp glass, but I do wish it had a EVF for my shooting in bright light or trying to pinpoint objects like birds.
