What I get from it ..is that Garry wanted to exist at the same time as his photograph. I don't mean 'recalling it as memory of being there ..but to exist, ..to be real. And for that he wanted recognition as a validation ..as well as the satisfaction (personal fulfillment and issues of the self) with the image of himself that he had created (along with the photographs).

"Hey thats Garry Winogrand!" ..is what I expect he heard some days in the street, and I think one day ..he wanted to hear it some more.

He was happy that people were looking at him as much his photographs. Is good to be happy is what I think he was saying.

(there are lots of clues about Garry in that conversation, the one about dogs caught my attention and then what he said about injury) He is talking to himself really, the interviewer is a bit 'predefined' in his thinking, Garry knows he can't make him understand, its like a feeling he has (deep thinking) ..but can't explain.

Gee that transcript is AWFUL tho(sic)

been reading it all morning ..some really nice insights.

He uses the word 'game' in an interesting way ..is honest and dishonest at the same time.

Easy to see why people like him.

thanks Sam ..enjoyed that

His thinking about SP vaguely reminded me somewhat - of yours! (while having many differences).

I'm just opinionated like everyone is.

Was interesting to read the interviewer's questions, Garry certainly had a lot of explaining to do back then ..lol

If he were posting his photos here people would repeatedly advise him to straighten the verticals and crop them in.

Have read it a number of times but there is something new each time.

There are a few of Garry's students in the DPR forums, I think Weegee might even have one of his cameras .. (told him I was available for adoption)

I wish I had gone to that workshop, but wasn’t doing street in 1988, but experimental video and films. Did get a 10K grant from the NEA that year, so it wasn’t a bad time.
