Hi all! Any suggestions for a COMPACT travel case for my RX10? We don't plan to carry around a lot of accessories so don't need lots of extra pockets. Definitely want something small and portable, top-loading design. Something that doesn't look like a typical bulky camera case (ie. NO lowepro!) Water resistant would be ideal but not a must.

For reference, I really like the Miggo Agua (link below) but it seems the RX10 is in between sizes - too big for the smallest one, but the size up would be too bulky.

Thanks in advance!

I've been happy with this Evecase Holster: https://www.amazon.com/Evecase-Digital-Professional-Shoulder-Mirrorless/dp/B074KPJXR7 (originally bought it for the Nikon P900.)

I mostly use it for packing up my camera, batteries, charger and a few extra small things to put it in my larger flight carry on cabin bag. So, I wanted it to hold a FEW things for organization, and for maximizing packing space, but I don't have a ton of accessories anyway. When I'm out with the camera, I'm usually wearing it with a Joby Sling and have just a few tiny things like an extra battery and memory card in a purse or just pocket.

It's not too big for just carrying it around, but since the camera is already slung around me, and, like you, I carry very few accessories when out, I find it annoying to ALSO be wearing a case cross body. Not caring how stupid I looked, I did try something the other night when we were heading out to opening night of a European Christmas Market and I was worried about crowds and bumping: I cinched the shoulder strap tight so it would sit around my waist and wore my camera with the Joby strap in such a way that if I put the camera down "at rest" in front of me, it would more or less sit *in* the case at my hip. This way, I could be hands free (for Christmas market hot mulled wine!) and not worry about being bumped, but when shooting, still had the camera strapped around me to worry about it being knocked out of my hands. Like a big, ol' camera fanny pack where the camera mostly "hovers" inside it!

Here's the RX10 iv sitting in it, with the lens hood reversed. There's room for the lens hood in shooting position, but if I'm just transporting it I'll often have the hood reversed. There's plenty of room for the sling strap to fold up in the extra space along the top while still attached, and I have a simple drawstring nylon shoe bag (my emergency rain cover that I can cinch up over the camera while I'm wearing it on the sling) that I put on top of the screen. I do have the divider in use, to create a slim section on the side, and I use a velcro divider from a different bag on the top over where the screen sits, just in case.

Then, I'll mostly just use this in a larger carry on bag so the camera is well protected when we fly, and I don't have to waste counting this minimal bag as an "item" for the plane.

I use the Tamrac 5684. I don’t have to force the RX10iv in, but there is no extra room.

Hey thanks for the detailed explanation and photos...that's a nice-sized bag; that might also be a good arrangement for light hiking when it's handy to have the camera cradled and not in the hand, but quickly ready for birds, etc. without having to unzip/undo a more complicated pack.

Oh yeah, if I didn't wear the camera strapped around me, then I'd just wear THIS bag cross body, and have it ready at the hand. It would work well for that. I just usually can't be bothered to wear both at the same time. And, because we travel by plane so frequently, and for extended times, I need to think about what I can carry on in addition to what I might actually use when going out to take photos. It's gotta be small enough to be *in* something else, but also protective enough for travel.

I just ordered the Ruggard Hunter Pro 45 DSLR hoster. I bought the RX10 IV from B and H and they sent me a Ruggard Hunter 35 holster. It fit the camera nicely but not my sling strap. Ergo, I order the 45 holster. Should fit both as well as some accessories. It also comes with a rain cover that pulls out to fit the bag. Perfect as far as I'm concerned. However, keep in mind I haven't received it yet. I'll update when I get it.

I find the 35 fits my RX10iv perfectly and of course the price was right from B&H.

I'm using the Ruggard Hunter Pro 45 holster bag. The camera fits very nicely into it and I can fold my sling strap on top of the camera and then zip it up and everything fits snugly. It has pockets for SD cards, an extra battery or two, a cleaning cloth, and more. What I really like is that it comes with a rain cover that pulls out from the bottom of the holster. For me, it's perfect.

It’s been a while since the last post in this thread. Wanted to ask you, Mark if your RX10 IV fits in your Ruggard Hunter Pro 45 holster Bag with the lens hood extended or in the non-reversed direction? Any other thoughts you have on the bag now, or anyone else’s thoughts on this bag or any other bags for the Sony RX10 IV will be much appreciated. I’m waiting for my new RX10 IV ’s delivery in a few days.

Hi. I used to have a Think Tank Sling Bag for my Rx10m4 but was now looking for a smaller alternative that I can easily use when travelling, in particular when hiking in combination with a backpack. I now bought a Lowepro Toploader 50 AWII which fits the RX10M4 easily with lens hood in extended direction. There is extra room on top for my peak design slide belt that takes up some space. And more space in the extra compartments for batteries, Sony charger and cleaning utensils. I am happy with this bag.

I am planing to attach it to my backpack and wear it in front.

Thanks, Looks like a good bag. I won’t be doing much hiking so a compact bag isn’t as important for me. I realize now I’m looking for a bag that can fit the RX10 with lens hood in extended position in a more horizontal position with room for an attached camera neck strap spare batteries and memory cards, and maybe even a second (Panasonic LX7) smaller camera . I like the magnetic closure (Plus zip closure) feature on the Think Tank 20 bags. Wondering about the Think Tank quality, though? I know the quality of the Lowepro Bags is good.

I had the Think Tank Turnstyle and the quality was great. It was able to fit the Rx10m4, a lot of extras, a smaller tablet and I suppose it would even fit a smaller additional camera (have not tested it though). Quality actually seemed a bit better than Lowepro. I thought the fabric seemed to offer better cushioning than the Lowepro. Just my impression though.

Sold the think tank only because the lowepro fits my needs better.

Thanks a lot for that info. It’s very helpful.

Thanks for bouncing this thread on compact cases for the Sony RX10 iv. Very helpful and enjoyed reading all the feed back.
Thanks, Jean I’m glad . I enjoyed it too ,and appreciated everyone’s comments. As a newcomer to the RX10 IV. I also found the discussion to be very helpful. Cheers!

Sorry for the really belated response. I still am using the Ruggard Hunter Pro 45 holster bag for my RX10 IV. I just put it into the holster and fold the sling strap (OPTECH) at the top. It just fits but that's fine. The lens hood is in its regular configuration. Of course, the lens is not extended because it's turned off. The holster meets all my needs for the RX10 IV. I also love the rain cover. So, it's still perfect!

No problem! Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the update. I ended up purchasing a Case Logic SLRC-201 SLR Zoom Holster (Black) from Amazon. I have been using it for about 4 months and am happy with it. I can hold a lot of sony back up batteries so the short battery life is not problem. It can hold sd cards and mini usb cables easily. I can set it down and it stands on its hard plastic end piece no problem. The holster style allows me to open the top end while it is on my shoulder to withdraw the camera in the right orientation. I can easily take the camera in and out with the tulip lens on. It is holding up very well so far. I like the internal lens suspension strap because it keeps the end of the lens away from the bottom of the bag.

Hello,

I just got a RX10 IV to replace my FZ200. Although an old camera, it was a 600mm zoom and F2.8 throughout. Never seen that again after that model. My lens has a mystery gash in it so I bought the Sony.

At full zoom, how do you find the FZ1000 and RX10 IV compare with sharpness since you have both?

PCWheeler hasn't posted in a couple years. Maybe he doesn't partake in these forums any more.
