This Month Through Your Adapted Lens -- January 2020 -- Part 1

Recently found this lens in a cup full of rainwater.
I'll bite: go on, tell us more.

I quite like the last one, of the bus. Thanks.

Regards,

Alan
Thanks Alan

Rooting about for 'classic' old tools in a sales section at a recycling centre (read rubbish tip) and saw this sitting in an old mug half full of rainwater. Prices at this place are incredibly cheap as they just fish things out of the rubbish and will take pretty much whatever you offer for them within reason. This along with 3 engineers files, a gas torch /long handled burner, a pair of pliers and a bit and brace drill cost me £3.

I'd not heard of the lens before but did recognise the Cooke name so I picked it up as a curio. It seems I got quite the bargain despite its rather poor state, it is a 35mm cine lens - fortunately no water got beyond the helicoid, into the aperture or behind the lenses.

You're not wrong there, the fact the heavily greased helicoid encases most of the barrel of the lens and the aperture ring is capping it off at the end makes for a very robust design.
