popped up on adorama via amazon last night. i was hoping it wouldn't release until after i got my tax refund, but i've been looking for a super wide zoom for a few months now and had bought a used canon ef 17-40/4L, but the quality is not what i expect from a canon L lens and you have to use it with the adapter, meaning more length and the choppy 3-stage autofocus with adapted lenses.
the major attraction of the lumix lens is the compactness. the sigma art 14-24/2.8 is about $300 cheaper, but quite a bit larger and i don't need the extra stop. also in consideration is that the l-mount sigma 45/2.8 doesn't focus nearly as well as the panasonic (native) kit lens and i'd worry the 14-24 would be the same.
only a few reviews so far, but mostly quite favorable.
very strange that adorama got these before b&h. i was on the alert me list at b&h, but as i'm typing this they still don't seem to be in stock there. or perhaps the guy who logs them in was off for mlk day.
lot of money for a lens though. i think it's the most i've ever paid.
