popped up on adorama via amazon last night. i was hoping it wouldn't release until after i got my tax refund, but i've been looking for a super wide zoom for a few months now and had bought a used canon ef 17-40/4L, but the quality is not what i expect from a canon L lens and you have to use it with the adapter, meaning more length and the choppy 3-stage autofocus with adapted lenses.

the major attraction of the lumix lens is the compactness. the sigma art 14-24/2.8 is about $300 cheaper, but quite a bit larger and i don't need the extra stop. also in consideration is that the l-mount sigma 45/2.8 doesn't focus nearly as well as the panasonic (native) kit lens and i'd worry the 14-24 would be the same.

only a few reviews so far, but mostly quite favorable.

very strange that adorama got these before b&h. i was on the alert me list at b&h, but as i'm typing this they still don't seem to be in stock there. or perhaps the guy who logs them in was off for mlk day. :)

lot of money for a lens though. i think it's the most i've ever paid.

Thanks for the update.

I got a Canon 16-35 f/4 and the MC-21 and I am a little reluctant to try it out on my Weebill S right now because of the weight and length (it is only a tiny bit heavier and longer than the Lumix 24-105 f/4 when that lens is zoomed out to 24mm, but I worry that we are in "straw that broke the camel's back" territory. And I still have to add the weight of a 77mm ND filter, too.

Good to hear the 16-35 is shipping. Have had one ordered from B&H since mid-December. I'm traveling for a few weeks and wanted to bring that lens; but it'll be there waiting when I get back.

The 14-24 sigma L is available for 1000 via refurb from sigma.

just got the email from b&h that they're in stock. but mine is already flying this way and should be here tomorrow.

and that sigma is an attractive price, but it's quite a bit larger than the panny and likely wouldn't focus as quickly or smoothly. and 14 is a little wider than is useful to me and for those who need them, no front screw in filters either.

i just looked up the specs and it's a good 1.5" longer than the panny and i already don't like the size of the 24-105 and it's about the same. i have the tiny sigma fp as my backup camera and the 16-35 isn't much larger than the 45/2.8 made for that one.

Mine is on its way from B&H. I hope it is as good as I'm expecting. This is always my favorite zoom range, and especially for video.

I bought it from store a few days ago in Sweden. It´s much lighter then I could imagine.
Would have liked to metal construction and an aperture ring as S Pro 50mm 1.4.

But other then that I am very happy.

BTW manual focus feels little more intact / better then my S Pro 50mm 1.4.
