anybody know what camera these Sigma lenses fit?

I bought these on some random internet auction for cheap, thinking they were Canon EF. Once they showed up in the mail, I quickly learned that they are not Canon EF, despite the red dot and the exact same pattern of contacts. Flanges are way too small for Canon EF.

It was suggested by a camera shop guy that they're Pentax K mount, but that didn't turn out to be the case, either. Flanges only very slightly smaller than Pentax K.

Anybody care to hazard a guess?

Whatever they are, I'm hoping that there's some adaptor to Canon EF so I can at least pop them on my 5DM3 and use them in manual.

If you go to Sigma's website, the lenses are listed as discontinued, so they do not indicate the lens mount. However, if you look at the sample photos, most are taken with Nikon cameras (and some are taken with Canon cameras - with adapter????).

Hmm. Very interesting.

I'm not familiar with the intricacies of Nikon lenses and lens mounts, but I've always known that they have the little bumpy bits as opposed to Canon's contacts. Nikon pictured below, which doesn't look anything like those Sigmas I bought. Maybe there are multiple kinds of Nikon mounts?

Adorama has a version of this lens for a Nikon AF-D E+ mount, but I haven't seen a good image of what this mount looks like. All told, Sigma made this lens in two versions, a DG Macro and a DG APO Macro with 5 different mounts each: Canon, Nikon, Minolta/Sony, Pentax and Sigma mounts. Plus there are U.S. and International versions.

Since most of Sigma's online images for this lens have Nikon in the EXIF (some have Canon), that's why I made the suggestion in my previous reply.

Looks like Sigma SA mount to me.

This Wikipedia article says that Sigma SA mount is identical to Canon EF, but neither of these lenses fit on my 5D Mark III. Diameter of the lens fitting is waayy too small.

It says it uses electrical communication like Canon. The mount is different but contacts are very similar. That is why when Sigma comes out with new lenses it is usually for Canon first and then Nikon.

Yes– me too. Sigma SA is electrically similar to Canon EF, physically closer to Pentax K, but compatible with neither. There are adapters for using SA lenses on some mirrorless cameras such as Sony, but not for Canon EOS digital SLRs.

Some people have converted their SA-mount Sigma lenses to EF-mount, but I understand that this requires suitable spare parts (or a donor lens) and probably some soldering:

Thanks for the info, Dave.

And it looks like I might still be in luck, because I found on Amazon a couple of Sigma SA SD to Canon EOS M adaptors, and I have an M10 and an M6.

Which begs the question- is there a difference between Sigma SA and Sigma SA SD?

These are definitely Sigma SA mount lenses, I've got bunch of them. There is no SA SD mount, that's some sort of typo in the adapter description. The lens mount is just "Sigma SA", "SD" refers to Sigma's digital cameras which use SA lenses.

Yes, that's the type of adapter you need.

Most Sigma SA lenses will work with manual focusing and fixed diaphragm (full aperture) operation, in metered manual or aperture priority auto exposure modes. There is a trick to make other apertures available, but it needs a Sigma SA AF body.

It shouldn't be too difficult to design an electronically coupled adapter for Sigma SA to Canon EOS M. I don't believe any manufacturer has ever done so, though, and probably never will – but I've been surprised before! I wonder if it would be possible to modify a smart EOS to EOS M adapter to accept SA lenses? Hmmm...

Did u ever get an answer to this. I have lenses here exactly like this and have been trying to figure the mount type.

Did you read this thread ?

This question has already been answered a few posts up .

And again in the post above yours .

The OP stated they won't fit his EF mount camera , it's clearly not F,A or PK mount as their mounts are and contacts are visibly different.

So that only left one option , as they weren't made in any other mounts .

Only one other mount looks like an EF mount for DSLRs/ SLRs. That's the one the OPs lenses are , and that's been stated in the last few posts .

If still in doubt call Sigma give them the serial # and they will tell you what mount they were made for.

there is no doubt... that is a Sigma SA mount.

BTW, it will be printed on the lens cap as : for SA/KPR.

Since it isn't a KPR , it will be SA.....

The front lens cap won't but the base cap should unless it's been replaced by a generic cap.
