The response times have gone right into the toilet on both my Windows machine and my iPad. Sometimes it takes "minutes" to load a single page on my iPad. This has been getting progressively worse over the last week and now It's doing the same on my Windows machine.

BTW, I have absolutely no problems with Fred Miranda, MU43, AMAZON, Facebook.. Actually, no other site other than DP Reeview.

My suspicion on my iPad is that it got really bad once DPR decided to load 25 or more links and images to past articles onto the first page. Add to that 3 or more adverts of various sizes and you have one BIG BLOAT.

If someone has any idea how I can make this better from my end.....I'm hoping!!

Hi there, we did have some issues in the last hour, but they have been resolved. Let us know if you are still experiencing issues, and if so, please provide your OS, Browser version and type.

Apologies for the issues!

Scott, the site was virtually unavailable to be for the last hour and a half. Now it appears to be fine. Was that a known problem, or is it just me?

Not just you, same here.

This latest Orange Atom Blast from Amazon is just plain awful. Who's idea was this? Hopefully this is just a short term pile of doodoo.

Now the background is white, even if you've selected dark mode.

That is actually a "sitewrap" advertisement. So the background is covered by the advertisement. We do not run these types of ads as often, but, especially around black Friday and the shopping season, advertisers are more keen to run these types of campaigns.

So....you have no control over what is advertised on you site? Hard to believe...

No, we do have control. We limit the # of ads of this sort due to the nature of how they work. But we do have to sell them to stay in business.
Fair enough. I see that the in-your-face Amazon wrap is now replaced with the Sony A7RIV......at least the black background is not so aggressive.

Let's hear it for the black background!

At around 5:30 EDT, the site crapped out again for several minutes. I also noticed some slowness earlier this afternoon. The claim earlier in the thread that the problems last week were related to a bad widget on one of the pages seems pretty bogus to me. Maybe you should take advantage of Cyber Monday and buy yourself a new server to replace the Univac you're using now. :-)

This seems to be a periodic thing with DPR, and it seems to have gotten worse just over this past year. and it's not my computer because (1) it happens on different computers, using different internet and (2) I can browse to other sites without a problem, meanwhile DPR might either not load or I have to refresh a few times to get it to load, or reload.

This is all true, honestly. We have been hit with a range of issues that have led to some site outages and periodic performance issues this year that are uncharacteristic in their frequency and severity. There were a number of targeted attacks on the site (DDoS) that tapped into vulnerabilities we had not had issues with before. We've also had some issues with crawlers as well.

The good news is that we've been upgrading various aspects of the site, and are going through some additional tweaks to address some of the root causes for temporary site outages.

To pour salt on the wounds, we've been a tad short-staffed with engineering this year, with several roles open. It is a challenging place to hire and keep engineers (Seattle)!

Either way, we appreciate everyone's patience as we sort through our dirty laundry.
