Has anyone tried the JJC handgrip for the GX9/GX85?

BIg advantage is that is does not block access to the battery, and it is cheaper too.

However, I have the impression it is less deep and.... somehow I think I like the looks of the original grip better...

If you have tried the JJC grip, I'd be interested to hear your opinion (and whether you compared with the original grip).

Thanks!

Chris

I just received this grip for my GX9. Although I can't compare it with the original grip I don't have, I can say that the JJC fits perfectly to the GX9, is less massive while greatly improving the prehension of the camera, especially with long or heavy lenses. The quality of manufacture is excellent. In addition to the aesthetic aspect, I chose this grip for its practical change of battery or memory card without having to disassemble what can be decisive in certain emergency situations. In addition it is equipped with Arca Swiss type base that allows to fix it directly on a tripod. Finally it is cheaper and even negotiable at some dealers.
I hope this will help you in your choice.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like finally a nice third party option with battery access other than the other 3D printed version.

Thanks, that helps. I guess it is indeed a better option than the original grip. Bit odd that Panasonic neglected the battery/memory slot accessibility. And indeed, as a bonus, even cheaper.

I picked up a GX9 in a consignment sale that came with the OEM grip. Took it off right away because it blocks the battery/card door.

I'll have to check this one out.

I have both, the original Panasonic DMW-HGR2 and the JJC bought via eBay.
I do like the JJC version mainly because the battery door and memory card are accessible. The tightening screw Is also quick release and doesn't require a coin.

However the actual grip is significantly shallower than the HGR2 which is disappointing. Also it's quite a bit heavier as it's made of metal.

Overall it's good but not perfect, if they had retained the depth of the original they would have nailed it, but it's a little too short for longer lenses.

I have the original one and without this grip the body is almost useless for me. Apart from the deep grip, it adds some weight which is also improves the handling.

I checked the product images and the grip doesn't seem to be deep enough. I am not sure if it will be comfortable to hold

For my hands of average size the JJC is perfect and in my opinion respects more the compactness of the camera. It would be different if it was to use large and heavy lenses, but at that moment it was the camera itself that would no longer be suitable. To give an idea I can easily hold with one hand my GX9 equipped with a 45-175 which is the biggest lens I have. It's much more risky without the grip!
