Greetings all,

I was getting ready to go to a party and wanted to take my Pana GX80. I charged the batteries and doing some test shots, and when I pushed the flash button, it came up. But, when I tried to fire the flash, it doesn't work. It has worked before, but now all of a sudden, Nothing. Has anyone had this happen? I've used it before, so know that it at one time did work. But, now alas, Nothing. How do I make the flash work? Thanks for any info.

Check if you are using Electronic shutter. That is one thing that will prevent the flash firing. Do you see a circle around and line though the flash symbol?

Thanks for you reply. Yes, there is a slash through the flash sign. How do I remove it? Thanks.

Make sure you are not using SILENT mode or e-shutter.

Thanks, it is silent mode. Any other suggestions?

The flash will not work in SILENT mode.

This from GX9 manual but applies to GX80:

The flash is fixed to [ ] (Forced Flash Off) in the following cases:
• [Backlit Softness], [Relaxing Tone], [Distinct Scenery], [Bright Blue Sky],

[Romantic Sunset Glow], [Vivid Sunset Glow], [Glistening Water], [Clear Nightscape],
[Cool Night Sky], [Warm Glowing Nightscape], [Artistic Nightscape], [Glittering Illuminations], [Handheld Night Shot] (Scene Guide Mode)
  • During motion picture recording
  • When recording 4K photos
  • When recording using [Post Focus]
  • When using the electronic shutter
  • When [HDR] is set to [ON]
  • When [Silent Mode] is set to [ON]
    • When a picture effect in [Filter Effect] of [Filter Settings] is set

Thanks, I turned it off and nada.

So, no other ideas? My flash works on my G6. When I pop up the flash, the slash goes off of flash sign. But, not on my gx80. Is it truly broken, or is there some setting to change? Thanks

I know this answer! I know so few answers that I have to brag when I'm finally able to contribute something. Or at least I know what worked for me...

In the second menu down (Motion Picture), the second option down (Filter Settings) had been set to EXPS and the flash on my GX85 wouldn't work. I turned the Filter Effect to OFF and now the flash works just as you would expect it too.

I have no idea what EXPS is, what Filter Setting are, or why anything connected with Motion Pictures would affect the flash while the camera was in Aperture Mode, but that's what worked for me.

EXPS means "Expressive" to someone at Panasonic. True, many of the "Filters" will not allow the flash to be used - because they force the camera into special modes that are not compatible with flash - according to someone at Panasonic.

Simplest solution (and it sounds appropriate in this case) is to do a basic Reset of the camera.

Thanks for you kind responses. Problem solved!! I just went nuts and started playing with every setting I could come up with. To tell you the Truth, I can't remember which one worked, I hit upon it by accident. My flash works now!! Now, I'm a happy camper.

Thanks again for your suggestions and help.

Thanks so much! I was going to abandon the device or buy an add-on flash. After modifying the menu, the flash works. And i live in Tacoma too.
