Digital Rebel and Lens kit for $800 on Amazon (zShop) - Just bought one

Fishy.... There is no memory card in the retail box for example...

Good luck though.

I know, this is a one time sale though. Its not like canon lowered
the wholesale price and in turn the srp.
So what? The question was whether this camera will be sold soon for less than $999. Well, it already is being sold for less and this is a reputable web seller.

This may be a brand new but is it a USA model?
All:

I just purchased a Digital Rebel with standard Lens Kit on Amazon
at one of their zShops for $805 including shipping. I wrote the
seller and he confirms that this is a Brand New/Unopen retail box
w/US warranty. The seller has a perfect rating and has been
offering the camera at this price for 3 weeks, so I figure any
negative feedback would have been posted by now.

Any reason why I should think this is not a fantastic deal?

No I don't work for Canon :) but the way these discounts are coming up each week it is a safe assumption. Plus the 1D and 1Ds have both been lowered recently. Whether you can buy it cheaper because of Canon lowering the price or just discount coupons it is still going down in price.

What are you basing that on. Has anybody on here gotten delivery of a Rebel D for much less than full retail without taking advantage of some kind of a store discount coupon or some such that quickly went away once the merchant found folks taking hundreds of dollars advantage of it. The Dell and Circuit City slipups come to mind.

The only deals I see advertised on the camera are from outfits like Broadway Camera who simply will not sell you one for the price they advertise. They will tell you it is out of stock, if you haven't agreed to buy memory cards, card readers, cases, cleaning kits, and who knows what else driving the price up to hundreds over retail.

If you deal with legitimate dealers who have stock of the camera, you are pretty much going to pay full price. In checking Price Grabber, the best you are going to do is maybe $50 off retail and that is from online dealers I pretty much haven't heard of. The only one I saw that I have had experience with is dbuys.com. The others have good ratings, though. Saving $50 is definitely not eath shattering, when you are spending $1000 with a dealer you never heard of.

There is definitely noone on Pricegrapper selling the kit for $800 like the guy on Amazon, who is probably not legit.

Too good to be true, is usually just that, not true.

Good deals are great fun, but this camera is hot. Nobody is going to take any less for it than they should. Guys like that scammer should be red flags right off and you really shouldn't give them any attention.

My order with him still hasn't been cancelled. With others getting theirs cancelled so quickly I'm hopeful I'll get the camera, but at the same time a little scared about the out come of this.

crosses fingers.

guess I'll just have to wait till monday.

Same here. I clicked and clicked and Amazon took my order about 7 hours ago. I got a confirmation, no cancellation, and Amazon still shows my order as being open. I sent the seller an email a little while ago but no response yet. If it was anywhere but Amazon I'd be tempted to cancel...

We'll see.

I just checked Amazon.com and I think you guys are too gullible. Take a closer look at the feedback rating. 5 stars is 5 stars right? ...NOT. Only five feedbacks and the oldest one is 9/23/03. Look at his other bids. Do you really want to buy > $800 worth of electronics from this guy? where did he get the equipment from? and brand new and sealed?

This isn't an auction, but in the auction world one of the ways to get a good deal is to buy from some who hasn't yet had a chance to build up a feedback rating. Not to say that this guy's account isn't questionable, but Amazon does offer a safe buying guarantee if the item is materially different from the listing, so I'm not feeling that I was duped.

the box of the 300D is not scealed though.

I would never buy from a third party because I woudl be afraid of fraud. this is not amazon.com but some third party selling through amazon service, right?

as you said..where did he get it? are they refurbished? what about the original invoice with a USA warranty card NOT already registered with someone else? I know Olympus digital camera warranty is NOT transferable and is only valid to the first legitimate owner...dunno if Canon has the same policy, but I would not be surprised.
