I like AndroidOne (the latest vanilla Android release) because it doesn't have all the bullcrap that you get on Samsung etc. phones. Except USB-C, my Nokia 7.1 is close to perfect.

My wife needs something besides FAT-32 to store movies on her microSD card. Because ExFAT is not in Linux, it's not in Android. I guess EXT4 would work? But she doesn't want anything out of the ordinary. While looking to see if the Nokia 7.2 supports ExFAT, I found this:

In late 2019 Microsoft cleared ExFAT for use in the Linux kernel, but it will probably take a long time to trickle down into Android releases.

Anything 64GB and above should be capable of being formatted to ExFAT if it wasn’t that way already out of the box? I have some spares which I can use on my Sony Xperia phone. I will try it out when I find the XDHC cards.

Correct. However my Nokia 7.1 phone cannot read them.

You can also format > 64GB as FAT32. However you cannot put a > 4GB video file on it.

I don't have any Android One devices. My Xperia phone successfully formatted 64GB ExFAT a few times. It shouldn't matter but what is the maximum size MicroSDHC that the Nokia 7.1 can support?

FAT32 goes up to 11 ;-)

With 4KB sectors, maximum is 16TB. You'll have to format it with 3rd party software, because Microsoft wants to make it ExFAT if larger than 16GB.

It's only that you can't have an individual file larger than 4GB on FAT32. Otherwise FAT32 performance seems just as good as ExFAT, despite what you may read.

P.S. I've gotta say, it is pure joy not having Samsung bullcrap on my phone.
