I can live with all the design issues in the DR but am worried about manufacturing defects. I want to be sure if I get one of those infrequent focus clunkers I can return it. (I think I know enough to test for focus flaws.) In my suburan desert it's hard to find a store with one. If you buy through amazon.com, they say they don't exchange for defects. Anyone with experience doing a exchange/return through amazon?

I actually preordered through amazon and trusted their Oct. 15th ship date. Figured I could cancel later. Well, they shipped already and I've got it on the dining room table. (Unlike others on the forum, i was happy to wait.)

Actually, Amazon.com has a 30 day return policy for ANY reason - even if you just don't like the camera. They will deduct the return shipping charges if the camera isn't defective, but that's a small price to pay to try a camera out and use it for a while to decide if it's right for you.

I bought a Sony 717 from them and used it for 2 weeks before the 828 and Digital Rebel were announced... in which case, I decided to return it and buy the Rebel. There were no hassles or restocking fees of any kind and I received my refund very quickly.

Highly recommended!
