...I am hoping to have a small gallery up later next week.

What I was particularly amazed about was the vast number of dSLRs and very expensive "L" glass that was around too. It appears to me that the digital revolution has really caught on. I know that this sounds pretty obvious by reading these forums, but this was the first time I had seen just so many digital SLRs. Canon, in particular, appear to be really doing a nice job in getting their equipment out (though I also saw more than a couple Nikon D100s in the mix). I saw several Canon 10ds and a few Rebel Ds too.

What was more impressive than the SLRs was the amount of white lenses I saw out there. It was very obvious that alot of the glass was being used by first timers (one example was two not so bright gentleman with 10ds flashing a very large female moose at 20 feet).

It is nice to see that photography is becoming so popluar again.

Canon really is being agressive. They are going to make tons on lenses and flashes with all of the Rebels and 10Ds.

I've never been to Yellowstone. I envy you that trip and look forward to some photos.

I haven't used any of my 35mm film bodies in the last 2 yrs (been using SLR film bodies since 1975). I recently tried comparing film vs. 6mp 10D vs. 35mm film (velvia 50 and 100F) and concluded that digital wins hands down at ANY print size.

Hi Juli,

This is my 6th trip in 7 years. I love the Yellowstone/Grand Teton area. The Teton's were spectacular - colors were rich and beautiful. At night, they are full of elk and other animals.

Yellowstone, being higher in elevation, was pretty much 'dead' in terms of foliage. However, Yellowstone is a spectacular place to be even in the twilight of autumn.

I envy your trip. We went there two years ago in January. Winter is the best time to go because: 1. animals are in full fur; 2. in the cold, the geysers create tremendous steam; and 3. no RVs. and very peaceful.

I must go there some day. Colorado is as far west as I've been, and it's been awhile. That state is beautiful.

Hey Greg,

Very funny. No - some photographer with a 1ds went over and gave them some tips. Personally, I was hoping that she would give them a bit of a scare - but most of the time they really just want to be left alone.

So did the moose report these two to the park ranger for indecent
"exposure"?

Can't a big flash put a catchlight into an animal's eye at 20 feet? Not sure if that was what the person was going for but I remember reading that Galen Rowell used a flash for animals just for the catchlight even at a distance.

Interesting... I've actually been surprised by the opposite. I shot the Twin Cities Marathon last weekend and I must have seen 100's of spectators and shooters with slr's... I would try and see if they were shooting analog or digital and I'd say 9 out of 10 were analog. There is still a killing to be made here...

Look forward to seeing your gallery!

I was there a few weeks ago and IMO a mob of people with big glass literally chasing a moose and her calf in Grand Teton (one example I saw) is not such a wonderful development. I think I should be the only one allowed to be out there.
