I looking to add a smaller / lighter camera to my kit for those times that size & weight are a factor. It seems the XE-3 with 23mm lens for $350 less cost than the X100F would be a better value plus I could add another lens or two later if I find the 23mm lens restricting. Am I missing something other than made in Japan vs China?

Nope, you’re not missing anything, you’re even gaining faster af and better tracking af with the X-E3. Unless you desperately need the OVF, leaf shutter, and built in ND filter then the X-E3 is the better deal. You can even buy a used mint condition X-E3 like I did and save more money towards lenses. 👍🏻

I have the X-E3 & 23mm f2, and an X-100T. For me, the biggest difference between the two is the optical viewfinder on the X-100T, which I like a lot.

The X-100T is a bit smaller, the AF on the X-E3 is definitely quicker, the image quality is comparable, I believe.

All that said, if you can get the X-E3/23mm f2 combo for $350 less, it would be hard for me to resist!

The X-E3 is a good camera and the fact that it's an interchangeable lens camera makes it a better choice for most people (in my opinion).

Because it has a fixed, (35mm equivalent) prime lens the X100F is considered a "niche" camera and isn't the right choice for everyone.

However, there are reasons the X100F is a more expensive camera than the X-E3 and the 23mm lens combination.

The X100F has the hybrid viewfinder, built-in ND filter, leaf shutter and a digital conversion feature that gives a person what amounts to 3 focal length options (35, 50, and 75mm).

I love everything about the X100F and think it's one of the best cameras a photographer can own but it's absolutely not the best camera for everyone and because it is limited by its single focal length lens, I don't think it would be perfect for someone as an only camera.

Naturally, that's just my opinion and many people are happy with it as their only camera.

Everyone is different. :-)

Totally agree with everyone Ed wrote. The only thing I would add, at least in my opinion, is that it is so damn much fun shooting with the X100F because it is such a unique camera.

XE-3 and the 23. But you may want to consider the 18-55 instead of the 23. It's a very good lens and can be had with a bundle for about $300.

Do a search - big thread about this very recently.

I tortured myself with this decision and went with the xe3. Sold it to fund a gfx purchase and missed it, so ended up getting xt30 to replace it. So happy with this setup. I pair a t mostly with the 27 or 18 for a very compact setup.
