Could be this link has already be posted...but just in case not.....

Our old mate has the hyperbole machine cranked right up on this one!! ;-)

Or maybe it's just fact!!!....one of the best two of three lenses ever!! a perfect 10!

Actually hope so...I'm planning to get one

Perhaps you are. For me, versatility is the single most important feature of a zoom.

The 16-80 is/has
1. relatively small and light
2. great range of 16-80
3. 6-stop OIS
4. weather-sealing
5. fast and accurate AF
6. great close-up capability (0.25x vs 0.15x of the other 2 zooms)

So it's got versatility in spades. I've compared the IQ to the 18-55, and honestly the images are practically indistinguishable from a technical standpoint, and I much prefer the bokeh on the 16-80.
So we basically get max versatility with great IQ, which makes this lens a bona fide winner. Just pair it up with a fast prime if you want edge-to-edge sharpness, shallow DOF, buttery bokeh, or low-light capabilities. That's not what zooms are for.
Spot on with that. They all apply for me. Especially 4 and 5. I have a lot of fuji primes and none are weather sealed. I had 18-55 which was great lens but now sold it in anticipation of this.

When I had FF my most used lens was Canon 24-105L F4. This will be perfect travel lens, add my 35mm 1.4 or 23mm 1.4 and I have a very light travel setup for all conditions. I have xh1 and xt3 bodies.

I'm in Uk and so far the new ETA for this is now Oct-Nov. So no idea what's happened there.
Similar thoughts crossed my mind. The Canon 24-105L F4 IS strikes a nice balance between IQ, price and provides great flexibility on FF bodies. The Fuji 16-80 occupies the same space IMO. However, since the 18-55 manages to pull off F2.8-F4 with OIS, one can only wonder why Fuji didn't go this route in terms of aperture range. Not likely due to technical constraints.

It's a fancy 'kit lens' - seems to be pretty capabe, but after the hype dies down it'll be seen as merely the bigger brother of the 18-55. I've yet to see anything to change my mind on that front. The 16-55 2.8 eats it alive. X-H1 owners should only look that direction, take advantage of that IBIS and you have an easy 16-80 killer.
Hi, I not entirely sure why the two lenses have to set on a conflicting path with subjective, emotional phrases. The 16-55 may be better for some people in some respects; after all it has a faster aperture, it may have better IQ at wider apertures and it may be better suited to those who chose the XH1, which has IBIS. It is also more expensive (some £230 in the UK).

But why not view the 16-80 as an alternative choice for other people rather than as a competitor? Personally, I would prefer the 16-80 (I have one on order to go with my XT3) due to its lighter weight, smaller bulk and OIS.

If the lens is a commercial success, in other words it makes money for Fuji, then we all gain as it contributes to strengthening their financials and long term commercial viability. I prefer to celebrate choice and let consumers select what suit their needs from a wide range of products (lenses in this case) rather than knocking a particular product (or lens) just because it does not suit your narrow requirements.

I just had a quick look at XF16-80mm F4 Flickr group. Bokeh is not bad at all. A nice travel lens IMO.

I'm getting a bit nervous right now. I have a 2 weeks trip to Asia in Nov and would be disappointed if I can't bring this lens. Hopefully B&H can fulfill their orders this month.

To all,

Is there any US supplier shipping these out. If not someone needs to reach out the Fujifilm and ask them why they can't supply it. If some is shipping in the US B&H needs to explain why they are not shipping yet. Just my opinion.

B&H got the lens in, at least for some of the people who pre-ordered in the first few hours it was announced. Those who ordered early have a status of In Stock, Sent To Warehouse. However, B&H is on religious holiday, opening at 9am on Wednesday.

Yeah, my pre-ordered lens isn't in yet. I keep having to remind myself - First world problems! Really not that big a deal:)

Had a look at the Flickr group but could only find two black & white photos.

Is there another group that I have missed?

Try this one:

Everything looks good to me. Sharp, pleasing bokeh, etc. My only reservation is I find even with the 16-55/2.8 I often have to bump the ISO to 6400 to freeze action at no flash indoor events. An f/4 would be pushing it.

But if the light is relatively good (or the subjects are static) and you need the reach this looks like a winner.

Also have a 2 week trip in November. I'd be surprised if it's not here in time, but if not, I"ll grab a used 18-55

Thanks Benzy. I have now joined the group.

Cheers

Thank you. Why B&H couldn't share that when I chatted with an associate is beyond me. If they had simply said we have started shipping and unfortunately you did not pre-order as soon as others so we didn't have sufficient quantity would have satisfied me. They should have done this rather than telling me Fuji failed to ship to them. I have bought a lot of gear from them and very aware of their holiday constraints. Maybe they didn't want me to reach out to other retailers. Or more simply they just told their customer service people to tell people what they told me. Oh well. I'm certainly in no rush. Just wanted to know because I travel quite a bit and want to make sure there would be someone home to receive it if they were sending it out.

Thanks. Some very nice results. Looking good so far.

Yip, the X-H1 and the 16 55 F2.8 is probably the best combination I've used in a long while, proves to me again that Fuji glass is just exceptional, and matched with the IBIS and X-H1 its truly awesome. My 5DIV is seeing less and less action :)

Whens searching for Fuji lens groups on Flickr, make sure you enter
XF16-80mm, not XF 16-80mm.
This goes for all Fujilenses, XF90mm F2, not XF 90mm F2.

Yes his review style is annoyed but he suggested many great lens that i agree with him: Tokina 100mm 2.8 AT-X for Nikon, Nikon 135mm 2.8 AI/AIS, Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 etc...

So that's the secret!

Thanks Lars
