How much to take those E-1 pictures...

I hadn't heard about an E1 teleconverter or didn't notice it.
There is a 1.4x teleconverter, the EC14. Read about it at

Go to menu item "The System", pop-up sub-menu item "Accessories", and on the next page select "Lens Accessories". Or browse the whole gee-whiz site!

The official ESP (Estimated Street Price) is US$429 according to

For my infrequent long focal length needs, that plus the 50-200 would reach 280 true mm, comparable to anything from 310mm to 560mm depending on which comparison you prefer, at f/4.8.

If i took pics of static scenes, like landscapes, buildings etc, i never had any problems. Nut, when taking pics of people moving, as in street theatre, candids, festivals etc, and especially in lower light, i would usually get ony about 1 in 3 properly focused. I usually pressed the shutter 2 or 3 times to give the camera more chance to lock in.

I came from manual focus slr, so I just thought that ws normal. However, with my new digital (10d) the ratio is about 80% in focus.

The E20 was a bargain at the time, and most people learned to use it within its known limitations. Hope this helps.

I like the new Olympus E-1, but I must confess that the 300mm lens + E-1 combo is not very competitive. There was a thread on the Olympus forum where it was pointed out to me that a bigger-frame camera with more pixels can indeed give a cropped picture with the same angle of view as the E-1 and the 300mm f2.8. It seems that Olympus haven't really thought this thing out well - they will need a camera body with a higher pixel count to bring out the full potential of this high-quality telephoto. But the 50-200mm zoom seems like a better deal - as pointed out, it's equal to a 100-400mm zoom on a traditional 35mm camera.
Hmm... 14-54mm ($499), 50-200mm($999), and 300mm($6,999) lenses,
plus the E-1 ($1799)... now what can I get from Canon for $10,296 ?
