Some hallmarks of Pentax top-of-class cameras are in place: green button (a highly under-appreciated feature of Pentax cams) is on back, not on top. ISO button is on top, not on four-way. IR-port present on back side as well as front (very useful!). Separate AF and AE-L buttons. Built in stereo mic, and microphone port AND headphone port at left.

Looks like a beauty that no doubt will equal or exceed IQ and low-noise of the KP. Looks more like K-S2 sized than the K-3's but probably has the LI90 battery in that grip. Built in stereo mic, and microphone port AND headphone port at left.

I like it, and it will no doubt be as robust as this K-3 I've dropped and dunked to no ill effect. Can't wait to get one.

I wonder what that little notch is for on the bottom-right corner of the rear screen ...

Just transition between flat display and curved part with buttons.

*duplicity thread*

I can't imagine a practical need for this in my life, but every time I look at it I like it more. A potential stablemate for my much loved KP? Maybe I should finally replace my ancient K-5iis....

I covered the DC Climate Strike today with my K-3. Having a damaged screen already because of my rough handling, I think (vertical stripes on about 30% of screen, absent of red pixels, it looks like), the screen went black altogether, even tho the camera kept taking pics. Several battery swaps changed nothing. An hour or two of no battery in the camera brought it back to life. I have no idea what caused that. My shutter count is only 27,000 or so, not near the life of the thing. But obviously, I'm going to limp along until this new camera comes out and once again be a first adopter. K-3 was already behind what the K-3ii's and KP can do, so I think the K-5iis has served you well, but the new IQ and newer noise tolerance seems good for you too. But then again, you have the KP . . .

I have always been sort of thinking that someday I might replace the K-5iis wih a second KP, anticipating that a "flagship" would be enormous and generally too much. This camera, however, seems reasonably modest and there is something appealing about it. And it has the third control wheel, of course, which is a requirement for me.

Plenty of time to think about it, regardless. I am not an early adopter and usually wait at least a year after release to buy anything, if not two years or more. Here's hoping by this time next year these cameras will be in the hands of their first owners.

It’s a good reason to buy the new one! 🤣

Am I seeing correctly, that the small wheel to the right of the prism now controls video and live view?

That's right. Nice touch indeed.

But there seems to be no mode selection mechanism for the third control wheel.

I noticed that. Maybe it has moved to a menu?

I dont know how others use the third wheel, but I almost never change its function. On my KP, it's strictly an exposure compensation dial, and that's a custom setting anyway.

It looks very nice to me. If the price is right it may replace my old K5.

Looks a bit finicky if that's the case. I suspect that opening it on a cold day whilst wearing gloves would be challenging.

i am afraid ricoh has no clue of market....this camera will appeal only pentax user probably, but i think the strategy is just this keep the present audience and maintain economic cost down and slight profit.

they had great idea in past and possibility to make great thing, but they simply left behind all competition...full frame great camera k1 then nothing for 3 year a bunch of lenses...apsc one camera again 3 years ago than another maybe next year, lenses one two....they had a superb medium format system to improve an make mirrorless again completely forgotten

they could have been what fuji is now, and in less than 5 years fuji simply killed pentax, with 30 40 lenses 6 8 camera.

time to dump all pentax equipment till is possible on eBay or used market. i will keep k1 and 645 d and a bunch of lenses only. as a travel i need video, pentax is nonexistent. great camera great history, zero vision at present.

What do you miss in the PEntax universe? Why change the system if you have one that serves you well?

If the camera company from which my camera comes from offers 40 new lenses - does it touch me in any way if I alread have what I need?

I don't see a better vision in the Fuji system. They build cameras you can use tot take photos. That's it. The question for me as customer could be: is there any system that gives me an advantage over the system I use at the moment?

And if I have a system that is trusty in reliable in the field and offers me the camera bodies an lenses I need - why think about a change? It costs a lot of money and will not improve my photography.

It would have been nice to see that Pentax targets on growth and a wider portfolio - but if they decide to go on with limited but high end equipment this is fine to me, too.

The camera remindes me of K5.

When I saw first photos of K5 I thought: what a boring camera! I did not have any espectation at all - and K5 became the camera of the decade.

This new model looks classic but also very sturdy build - a working horse made for hard work - and this is something many of us need most.
