Updating firmware,7Hi

I'v read numerous posts about this. Is it necessary to update? My understanding is this, the 7Hi came with firmware 1.00u. There is an upgrade, 1.01u which primarily allows for using SD cards and adapter.

Some here have said this update makes some negative changes to the camera operation.
True?

Also, I've often seen the O.E. firmware refered to as 1.10u and the update as 1.11u. { I believe this to be incorrect terminology}

Minolta's site says "this minor update improves overall functionality".

The instruction page portrays this upgrade asone which allows use of SD card with adapter.

Again, is this update necessary? will it cause problems?

I'm inclined not to upgrade as I think the 7Hi functions great as is.

Is it quite confused on their website, right? I feel the same.
I called the Minolta USA before and asked them the question.
The guy said it will improve the overall functionality. I just
don't believe him so I didn't upgrade.

I feel they can only use common sense to answer your
questions, which you can do by yourself too. I am kind
of disappointed.

I believe that you may be mixing up those upgrades with the 7i upgrades. The 7i came w/ 1.00u, then there was an upgrade 1.10u, followed by another upgrade, 1.11u, which the Minolta description seemed to indicate only added SD cards in adapters. Minolta tech support, though, never seemed to acknowledge the 1.10u version once 1.11u came out, and verbally referrred to the whole upgrade as improving overall functionality. Where that fits in w/ the 7Hi upgrades I couldn't say as I didn't follow it (being a 7i user).

I upgraded my D7Hi with 1.01u with no ill effects. I believe the "bad" firmware is for the D7i, which is a whole different firmware animal.

(I didn't see any benefits, either, but some have said the camera is more tolerant of different CF cards after the upgrade.)
