New *Sigma* 12-24mm

I'm not familiar with Sigma lenses. What does EX and DG stand for in the lens name? A while ago I read another post about the lens (in the Nikon SLR lens forum, I guess) and I got the impression that the lens would be similar to Nikons DX lenses, i.e. not suitable for full frame. Still, it's an interesting new lens in a range I'd like to have and I can't wait to see the lens in action when it comes out.

Appears to be full frame not Nikon DX type. I have heard a price
in the 7-800 dollar range.
Yes, it will give a true 12-24 on a 'full frame' body (122 degrees). The most obvious drawbacks WRT the nikon are filter mount (rear gelatin like the 15-30), a little heavier, and a bit slower (f4 cf f4.5-5.6).

I'm sure the Canon crowd will be happy they will finally have a 'wide angle' solution for their 1.6x cropping factor DSLR's, this was one of a few deciding reasons why I went with the D100 as there was no option for going 'super wide' at the time with the 10D.

As mentioned in the other post, this is certainly not like Nikons 'DX' lenses which are only suitable for 'DSLRs'.

EX is a model range I think which basically means 'better than the other ones', or 'pro' (EXpensive!).

DG means 'better' for Digital, see :

IMHO Sigma lenses are not half as good as the
Nikon originals. I recently bought a 14 mm , but
the difference between Nikon and this Sigma shows
best when shooting jpegs. The Nikon's give good, sharp
results, whereas the Sigma for me only is useable when
shooting Nef's. The loss in sharpness and detail in jpeg is
awfull !
If you have the cash, go for the originals, you won't regret !!

Frank.

If a lens is not sharp, it's not sharp.
I wouldn't use it for anything.
Now, it certainly doesn't seem to be the case of the 15-30, check Yves posts.
