This company just rocks!! They listen to us on these forums and they give us what we want and need. This latest camera shows that they have put out a incredible camera. If this in any indication of what the cameras will be like with the Foveon sensors we are going to be seeing some amazing cameras next year. I knew they had the capability and expertise to put out high end cameras that will compete and even supersede the other major camera companies. I just want to thank Sigma for their extremely hard work to put out state of the art equipment for us. To me it is obvious that they have passion in what they do. AND they know that us as passionate photographers appreciate equipment that will be true extensions of our creativity. You have made me excited Sigma. THANK YOU!!

Sigma amazing, yes ok, but I think very few on this forum were waiting for a video camera from Sigma. And no one has seen some results from the fp yet, maybe it's full of bugs ...

I think they do listen. The SD Quattro really was a camera that had a lot of what people here were asking for over a few years of posts about what the next camera should have. For example, it can record in DNG, it has HDR capability, it has live view, it's faster, and it's mirrorless.

Many years ago, before the first Art lens, I said Sigma should make a full set of excellent lenses, like Canon's L series. They listened, and made the Art line of lenses. In doing so, they've benefitted greatly, not only in their camera sales (which I suspect have done much better as a result - after all, who wants to buy a camera with no lenses to use?), but for their whole lens sales business too, as I'm sure you're aware.

Yes Josef but everybody is aware that the next camera or series of cameras. (I think series) is coming out next year. No?

And likewise the next Foveon will be a true X3 Foveon, not a Quattro :-) So I agree with you :-)

Yes, I hope so, with a Foveon sensor. But this will be a camera with a totally different form and shape and character, it must be.
The fp box is the heat sinck itself, it will become very hot with a Foveon sensor in it, not to handhold without a grip, I think.

Some years ago, part of job responsibility was heat flow calculations for electronic enclosures. And long before that, calculation of heat-sink sizes for power transistors and regulators.

So, trust me when I say that if you can't hand-hold it, the surface temperature is over 50C (122F). If those are the temperatures of the camera casing outside, I can assure you that the electronics inside will not last very long ... heat sink or not, Foveon or not.

In other words, if it's too hot to hold, it ain't gonna work.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

I don't think so. Processors have become so fast now that the 60 MP sensor will not push the processor very hard, even though the camera will operate much faster than the Merrill cameras did. There will only be about 1/3 more information to process, yet the processors are probably at least four times as fast compared to those in the little DP Merrills.
