I had the x100t, loved the colors, userbility and performance for what it was. Now I am back in the market for something small for travels so I wondered if I should look into an interchangeable lens solution such as the x-t20? Has anyone picked this instead of the fixed lens X100F? I mean it also isn’t pocketable but I’d like to have something small and powerful

Have you considered the X-E3?

That with the 27 2.8 is smaller and lighter. Plus you can change lenses :) The 27 2.8 will also be much sharper wide open the the 23 on the X100 series.

You will loose the OVF and pull up ISO adjuster. But you gain the ability to change lenses, a decent touchscreen, and a smaller more pocket-able form factor!

Hope this is helpful!

To be clear, the X100F is pocketable if you wear something like cargo shorts. Just fits nicely in the side pockets. While the X-E3 with the 27 is the same size, it is only f2.8 instead of f2. Your can put an f2 or faster lens on the X-E3, but then it is a lot larger.

I love the X100F BUT :-) , there's always a but, I've never recommended it to anyone as an only camera.

Everything from the viewfinder to the built-in ND filter, the leaf shutter, camera ergonomics, and size are great but the fixed single focal length lens makes it a niche camera and an interchangeable lens camera, like the X-T20, is more versatile simply because you can use any of Fuji's excellent lenses.

If you already owned an interchangeable lens camera or even one of the newer bridge type cameras with a one-inch sensor and was thinking about getting an X100F as an additional camera, I'd recommend it 100% but as an only camera, I'd go for the X-T20.

Naturally, that's just a personal opinion and I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. :-)

The X-T20 with the 27mm lens works great for me. Easily pocketable, even fits a shirt pocket (but looks really weird). Pretty much my grab and go camera backing up the main body and zooms.

This was my situation as well. I was using an X30 (still have 2 of them) and wanted to climb the ladder. The X100 was so appealing but I wanted the ability to try different glass and have more versatility but also stay as small as possible - when we travel we like to be light and nimble - so we went with the X-T20 and 18-55 kit lens. No way to avoid sounding like a salesman but it's a fantastic piece of gear. It feels great in the hand, feels very well made, very solid, and when paired with something like the 18f2 it's a compact little powerhouse. I love the photos that come out of it, and aesthetically it looks so damned cool. It gets compliments all the time, people thinking it's an old film camera, how "retro" it looks. I've now had mine 2 years and I literally use it every day, either personally for fun or professionally (product shots).

Hi, I second this. I had a XT20 (now XT3 as my main camera), and looked seriously at the X100F last Autumn. I also looked at the XE3 + 27/f2.8. Heart said X100F, head said XE3 + 27. Head won.

Took it to Paris for a family long weekend. Never looked back. Actually, the XE3/27 now gets more use than my XT3!

I had an X100T as my only camera for 3 years, later adding the two conversion lenses. It’s a great setup and lovely camera. I eventually craved a wider selection of focal lengths and higher quality Fuji lenses though. I added an XT20 and collection of lenses about a year ago.

I have rarely used the X100T since buying the XT20. The XT20 just adapts to my needs easier with the option of lenses and better AF. I never got into using the OVF or leaf shutter.

The only reason I’ve held on to the X100T is that the XT20 ergonomics are beginning to annoy me (with larger lenses). I feel close to replacing it with an XT3 just for the grip. The X100T will then be by small/light one lens set up.

Such a great idea, this is just what i was looking for. I went to the store and it looks like a perfect fit. Do you have any experience getting used XF lenses? I want to save a bit money here :)

I have both. I use the X-T20 much (!) more often. I have both versions of the 23 and now own the newer 16mm 2.8 which I have not taken off the camera since getting it. It is 24mm equivalent and in the recent past I have seldom shot that wide so I am currently on a "kick".

I love the X100F and the built in ND filter is nice to have but the X-T20 (and X-T30, X-E3, X-T3 etc) give you what a system camera set up offers. If I were you I would go X-T20 and don't look back.

Good luck in your choice!

Keep an eye on Craigslist, letGo, OfferUp. Check your local store too. My local store is very reasonably priced on their used Fuji gear.

I was able to find an X-E1 with 18-55 on LetGo today for $200.

And what do you think about trying an X-A5?

It is even smaller than a T20 but offer a lot of her functionality: in fact even something that other fuji cameras does not have like the possibility to produce stunning 4K 30fps timelapse video directly in camera (included intervalometer).

I give a try to this camera because I have found one complete new open box kit with the fujinon XC 15-45 zoom lens with OIS for less than 350 euros on amazon warehouse!

I'm still discovering the full potential of this tiny camera but what a big surprise! It is so fast on startup, the 24megapixel bayer APSC sensor retain so much details , you have all the famous fuji film simulation (except eterna and acros) and the possibility to do raw conversion in camera.

A lot of parameters like ISO selection, AF/MF selection, focus magnification aid, film selection, exposure compensation, white balance, can be changed via physical dials or virtual buttons on the touch screen. Battery life is incredible in the mirrorless scenario (estimated 450shots per charge).

It is so good that Fuji engineers leave so much of the creative power through customisation into such a tiny and economic digital camera.

Another big advantage is the possibility to change lenses!

I have mounted a tiny voigtlander 21 mm lens using a fuji-x to leica m39 adaper and this duo is so small.

Lots of good suggestions above - would also put in a good word for the underappreciated XF 18mm f2. Certainly not the sharpest lens in the lineup (and I tend to use it from f/2.8 up) but is almost as compact as the 27mm, has gorgeous rendering and an aperture ring to boot. Pairs beautifully with my X-E3. I use it alongside the X100 series.

Do you plan to change lenses?

You need to pick up an X-T20 and handle it. Ergonomically it's not as pleasant to use as the X100F in my opinion...but you may have a different one :-)

You bring up a good point and when people are comparing cameras they need to consider the whole package and not just what lens can be put on a particular interchangeable lens camera.

I agree 100% that a camera like the X100F isn't as versatile as any of the Fuji interchangeable lens (mirrorless) cameras simply because it's a single focal length camera but when people ask whether this or that camera is "better" than the X100F they need to consider what the X100F offers that's not offered by most other cameras (the whole package)

Hybrid viewfinder, ND filter, leaf shutter, camera design (ergonomics) and size along with the 2.0 lens are a combination of features that aren't offered by any other Fuji camera and that can't even be matched by much more expensive cameras like the Leica Q or Sony RX1 series.

No, the X100 series isn't right for everyone and is, basically, a niche camera but if a person is considering it compared to other cameras they should think about much more than just the ability to change lenses.

I agree with this thinking - tactile feel and hand-fit can be underappreciated. I've seen the same thing on car forums, people talking about choosing their sport seats based on whether it has stripes or not, without a word as whether it'll feel like a torture device after an hour of driving.

I personally found the X100F less comfortable than the X-T20 because I have smaller hands, but that's exactly the point. Lens recommendations are one thing, but comfort and fit are entirely personal. And really what good are sensor size, AF speed, etc. if after 20 minutes with a camera you just want to put it down because it doesn't feel right in your particular hands. Sometimes the only way to know is to spend time with it yourself. Forum recommendations can't help with that.

I pocket the x-t20 all the time (with the 27mm pancake on it). IIRC, I think that the x-t20 + 27mm is just a wee bit smaller than the X100t.
