Hi guys,

I've just made some tests to see if there's any difference in IBIS modes, but it seems that the major difference is in how steady I hold my hand.

Sometimes I even have better results with IBIS turned off because my hand was more steady.

Is it really 3 stops advantage using it? I've only tried the normal mode, is sport any better? Which mode is better given the circumstances of the shooting?

Thanks in advance.

It's MORE than 3 stops advantage, at least what I experience, but it depends on the lens. The advantage is not noticeable with WA lenses but definitely very noticeable with longer focal length, already starting to be noticeable at around 50mm, and the longer you get the better it becomes.

What lenses did you use?

I use sigma 24-35 f2 art and sigma 85 f1.4 art

Only non vr lens that I have tested has been th Nikon 85 1.8; with excellent results. Furthermore it has reinvirogated my 70-200 2.8 VR 2. I feel that not only did I get a new camera (Z6) I also gained new lenses. :)

My Sigma Art 35mm failed to autofocus on the Z6 :(

Knew very little about photography when I decided to buy the awesome Nikon D70; learned quickly that this expensive camera didn't make me a good photographer.

Mine works fine; also the 50mm and 85.

It depends.

What I can say is I find IBIS works extremely well compared to no IBIS.

Nikon (and other manufacturers) provide little information as to what IBIS gain at any particular shutter speed.

Nikon say up to 5 stops with the 24-70 f4 at 70mm - but I can find nothing else.

Nikon say the up to 4.5 stops VR potential for the 200-500 at 500mm is obtained at 1/6 second. This implies a gain of 4.5 stops compared to about 1/125 without VR.

For many hand holding at 1/125 at 500mm would not be critically sharp - so 4.5 gain is relatively possible - but unlikely if you want critical sharpness.

IBIS (and VR) performance can be improved by leaning against a wall, or elbows on a convenient wall etc.

Just yesterday I was using a 135mm manual focus lens with my Z7, and switched off IBIS for fun to see what it does. The differences are HUGE. With the IBIS off I could hardly focus, using magnified view was very difficult, but with IBIS on it was no problem at all. I could not see any difference between Normal and Sports, but I think the differences are in panning Sports mode is supposed to be better, but for everything else, Normal is supposed to be used.

Solution
Yes I've checked that, and my camera is unaffected.

The IBIS seems to work fine, It is hard for me to judge the results in the practice though.

Thanks!
