Hi all, so I have the gx80, and was going to put it into the 'service mode' so I can video 4k 30 / 1080 60, rather then the 25/50 respectively. Then it came to me, if I updated with the gx85 firmware rather than the gx80 would this work and automatically be in the 30/60 FPS? Regards

I am pretty sure that you can't simply put GX85 firmware into GX80.

Perhaps you know what you are doing, but if not, remember that if you are in 50Hz electricity region, 25fps/60fps is the recommended option, because the camera will automatically sync to flickering lights sources. Shooting at 30fps when the lights will flicker at 50Hz will look absolutely terrible. In order to get 25/50fps, the camera needs to be reset, and all the customization will be lost. You don't want to encounter this situation.

Personally, nowadays, I shoot everything at 25fps. Mixing 25fps, 24fps and 30fps footage is asking for trouble when editing the video.

Thank you Pannumon, most of my videoing is in daylight, the only time I need lighting I use CFL bulbs which don't flicker, well they are not noticed on the footage anyway.

Hoping Panasonic would tell you if you wasn't able to flash the hardware with different firmware, for the same hardware. Normally version code would be check previous version, yes or no, good to go or not so to speak. I'm not familiar with Panasonic gear.
