Recently relocated to Switzerland... and I went from living in the largest city in my state (Burlington, VT - pop of the county around ~170,000 and the state ~620,000) to just outside the largest city in the country (Zürich - population of the canton ~1.4 million).

Finally settling in and getting out with the camera. I’m going to have to go to school on gradients and LP removal, and I’m going to have to find some accessible dark skies. And wait until it gets darker earlier!

Anyway, 2 different images of the Big D, from the terrace outside the bedroom, on a hot, hazy night.

Dusting off my gear and getting it all sorted for an upcoming trip to the mountains, where I hope to have clear skies and better seeing, and views to the south.

CC welcome, but I know these are not the greatest images.

Canon 6d Mk2 with Sigma 35 Art (wish I’d used the 85...).

Shot at 800 because my usual 1600 was blowing out with the sky glow.

F2.8, 30s, 800 66 of 77 stacked in Starry Landscape Stacker and processed in Ps and Lr.

Polar alignment looks a little off, I normally work by eye, compass and level - but I have the polar scope now for the Vixen Polarie and have been practicing using it.

And one of the 77) 30s frames I used to stack, after Lr lens correction and dropping the contrast and tweaking the highlights, blacks and whites.

Second is prettiest IMO.

Have you permanently relocated, or is this temporary? That's quite a change!

Thanks Nate. Yes, I generally like a little air-glow / etc. in my images when I'm doing landscapes, but wow, so much LP here (I shouldn't be surprised, so many people in a small space...!)

And its been hazy / cloudy most days since we've been here. I do seem to get lucky with decent skies around the last full moon...

Taken from about 5 minutes up the hill from where the previous stars were imaged...

We want to make it permanent... but that will take time.

You probably know everything I said about LP removal workflow in this post but just in case-:)

Thanks! That is great and I try to do most of those things... I actually just tried to ‘dust and scratches’ on the original image. Then blurring and making this into a mask on the 2nd or 3rd curves adjustment layer... sort of works, I’m sure my lack of expertise is holding me back so more practice...

Zermatt and Matterhorn in a couple of weeks, hoping for clear dark skies.

I'm envious!! 12 yrs ago, took the family on a 16-day alps trek which included the Hornley Hut & other in that area. Would love to get back there.

Best wishes for clear sky & safe travel.
