I'm a video guy. I shoot on Panasonic and Canons. I have a a range of MFT lenses and EF mount manual lenses (no AF). I also have an EOS M100 as a holiday / pocket camera.

In the past I had a canon 7D with 70-200 f2.8L, but as I was doing less and less stills (and was very well served by an FZ2000 for most of the stills stuff I was doing) I got rid to buy moe video orientated kit.

I have been asked to take some stills for online use at a local EIHL hockey club.

The lighting isn't great and I gather I'll need 1/500th preferably faster to freeze the action, so in short none of my current kit is really up to it.

I have been considering a few options... please chip in, but remember I can't throw silly amounts of money at this. It's a favour and an excuse to get back into more stills orientated kit, which I've missed.

Option 1.

Get a fast USM or HSM lens for my M100. The DPAF isn't terrible, and it's DXO ISO rating, although paltry, is the highest of what I have available to me.

Option 2.

Get a used DSLR with good low light. As it's online only, something like a used D700 might be good? I'd need to get something like a used sigma 70-200 HSM to go with it.
So not megabucks. Not the latest. But a bit more lowlight oomph. It grates a bit that I need to change system, but it's hard to argue with the bang for buck. I am kind of drawn to this as its something different.. to me at least.

Option 3.

Buy a new EOS 6DMk2 on one of the current interest free deals. More money than I want to spend, but I'm not spending it all in the one go, I guess. More up to date resolution etc.. would still need to splash for a lens to go with it... probably a used 70-200 f4L which can be had for cheapish, and mitigated by the high iso ability...

Used 5D3s are holding their value and a 5D2 is not an option.

Option 4.

This is where you come in.. I'd love a 5D mkiv and a 70-200 is iii but it aint gonna happen. Any budget bargains with half decent AF?

Many thanks

you should be at 1/800th minimum.

if it's just one event, how about renting a camera and a lens.

get some experience with gear that you might be interested in purchasing.

if it's a dark venue, i'd suggest ff, and f/2.8 minimum.
