Hello everyone,

Hope you are well.

Sharing another photo from my shoot with Yara at Jakarta, this was 20 days or so after I got myself the GFX and the 110mm F2. Didn't want to miss the chance to try it of course, was happy to leave my Nikon D810 behind.

Check the high-res if you want to pixel peep. As always, I'd appreciate your feedback :)

Have a great day.

Nice work with a lovely model. I would probably darken the bright surroundings to bring her forward a little more.

nice pose and colours.

I would keep both yours as well as Sabrina81's edits. In yours, she looks younger, softer and more demure for some reason and more confident in the other darker edit.

Thank you :) I like the brighter one.

She looks great, and the photo itself is good. I have an issue with the posing though.

Hooking her thumb to pull down her neckline, thus showing more boob, cheapens the shot. What woman would do that in real life?

She's sexy enough as it is in that dress. This pose just makes her look less classy.

In this kind of portraiture, I don't think emulating real life is the point. It's a stylized representation.

This is quite excellent. I do like the direction that sabrina took it; perhaps something somewhere between the two.

But, either way, very well done.

2secs in IG and you'll see how conservative this photo/pose is. And maybe she wasn't trying to be "classy". Maybe she was trying to be daring, seductive and a bit naughty. Could be a million things IMO.

OP, great shot. I prefer the lighter background in this case. I like the overall tone there better.

It could be called glamour or Boudoir photography.

It is provocative, which is not necessarily a bad thing. But it's something I would expect from a more mature woman. Seems out of place for this model's young age.

It isn't about conservative. It is about class, or perhaps more accurately, about not looking like a bad pose instructed by a photographer.

A pose can show "stylized" risque, that's fine. My critique is not to suggest that shouldn't be attempted. My comment is that it was not successfully accomplished here.

Seriously though, have a look at this image, then try to un-see it when looking back at the OPs photograph...

@Suntan: Thank you for the feedback. For the part where you said the photo is good.

I looked at the other photos from the shoot after reading your comment, and for your information, she isn't trying to pull down the neckline, it is that long by design. She tried to pose in a seductive way by keeping her thumb at the end, and I think she succeeded. And I don't think women will do that in real life casually to make it a real-life thing. Many will do such with / in front of their partner, and that is their private life, so no, you wouldn't see women doing that in real life, not in front of just anyone.

It's very good Manzur.

I didn't see "Hooking her thumb to pull down her neckline" - but it does feel a touch awkward. It doesn't imply anything IMO. It's just a pose.

I have to wonder if there were better poses from the session. If she was doing her job as a model there would be a lot of variations on hand positions. This is the one Mazur chose/liked, so there it is.

Impressive. Seems it checks all the boxes for me. As a single shot. It would only help to see a sample of poses with such a gorgeous model. I cannot think of a single thing to modify. Except do a whole portfolio. One shot, like one robin does not make a (rapturous fulfilling) photo session/ Spring either. Nice work. Nice indeed in its simplicity of statement. No frills, straight look into camera which I tend to practice. PS. Checked your web page...you do brilliant work and have chosen some superb models. I am green with envy for latter..but you do them justice with your skill and craft.. aloha, gerry

Thank you for your feedback :) I like the brighter one personally. Darkening the background / surroundings taking my eyes to the dark areas more and also there are some hard edge effects that I'd like to avoid in my edit.
I agree with you.

In the darker one , Yara melts into the background.

Sabrina often has very good suggestions but I think she can't stop herself from having suggestions , even if there is nothing to suggest.

I won't argue subjective preferences. What you prefer is what you prefer. But as to objective measures of what separates subject from background, that is a different story.

Of these four, which is more "melted into the background," and which is more clearly separated from the background?

#2 is the original as posted by the OP, and #4 is my edit. Can you honestly say that #4 is "melted into the background"?

Look, I am years behind you in editing skills. Which does not mean I cannot have an opinion on a final cut.

Your above comparison is totally unfair, it is hair splitting. Isn't this subject here a portrait of Yara and not a discussion on her partial arm contrast?
