I’m looking at the Peak Design 5L & 10L Sling Bags to carry an X-H1 with attached 16-55 zoom, the 90mm, and possibly a 35f1.4 prime lens.

Does anyone use these bags? Would you recommend one over the other?

I've got a peak design 5L sling bag, and very happy with it.

However my kit is more compact: an X-T3 with 18-55mm and 35mm f1.4

In your case I think the 10L version is needed.

I'm using 5l version with similar setup (right now XH1 with 18-55, 50-230 and 60. It is a tight fit but I've successfully used it this way for my trip to Japan/Philippines. 10l may be a better option if You want less tight fit and are fine with significantly larger bag
Thank you.

Is your bag filled tightly enough, that the front pocket is no longer useful?

I have a 5L and like it very much. I’m usually carrying the 23/2, 35/1.4 and 18-55 with my X-E3.

For longer trips, and where weather is iffy, I’ll add the 50-230, packable rain jacket and merino sweater.

I really wanted the 10L to work for me, but as others have reported, the strap is just too skinny. PD really needs to rethink the design on that. Other than the strap, all the other features are well implemented. I ended up returning it and got a Tenba 14L Fulton backpack.

I have the 10L, I carry the X-E3 with handgrip and either the 18-55mm or the 23mm f1.4 attached, 14mm, 60mm, and 90mm. It works well(still room for extra batteries etc) but I think that is the limit(and maybe a bit beyond) for comfort. As others have said, it could use a wider strap, also, at least for me, a detachable underarm strap that would prevent the bag from swinging forward when you are just walking. But it is well made with clever touches. But I find myself more and more just going out with a Think Tank Mirrorless 25 and just 3 lenses.

No - I have a battery or 2, XH1 flash and few small items there. If there would be issue then it would be only with the top pocket. I can fit 3- 4 batteries there but that's it. Also the small pockets in the main compartment are not very accessible with big lenses. I prefer this one compared to 10l though. It's really small and comfortable and discourages taking too much stuff :)

Not to repeat myself, here`s one of my recent posts about Peak Design Sling 5L:
I have Peak Design 5L, and I really like it so far. It is _very_ compact (for what it is), but I find that a big plus, being aware that it also means I probably can`t take everything I might have thought I may need... ;)

That said, I can fit X-T3 and up to 4 lenses in it (one attached to the body and up to three extra) - and that should really be more than enough even for a moderate photo walk, not to mention a casual (non-photo oriented) one.

If we imagine the main compartment consisting of 6 "cells" (separated with two multi-fold dividers), X-T3 with a lens (18-55, for example) takes 3 "cells". Under the X-T3 body grip, I`m left with one separate "cell" for a smaller lens (like 23 f/2, Samyang 8mm, etc). On the opposite side, I have two connected "cells" for either two more smaller lenses, or one bigger (like Canon 100mm f/2.8L or Canon 135mm f/2, with Fringer adapter attached - I guess Fuji`s 50-140 should also fit).

Just for comparison, in your case where you carry the camera outside, the bag itself should be able to fit (almost) 6 smaller lenses, like your 23 f/2, but even bigger 18-55 could be fitted inside a single "cell" only (of 6 in total), paired with a small lens on top of it (separated with unfolded divider). Might be 3 bigger lenses wouldn`t fit together alone, each taking two cells vertically (full height of the bag) but needing some more width...?

But anyway, you get the picture - not sure how many lenses you need for a single casual outing, but if small size, convenient shape and inconspicuous looks are important, it doesn`t seem to get any better than Peak Design 5L.

Of course, at the end of the day, if you find that you just can`t fit in everything you _really_ need/want, then it`s clearly not for you, no need for anyone else to tell you that :)
..., and a follow-up:
Wow, I can't even imagine putting all that in the 5L. Do you use the front pocket?
No... Well, not for now, at least. But because of bag`s "inward extensive" design all pockets expand at the cost of making less room in the main compartment, so I pretty much find most of them rather useless as they are.

In the bag, at the moment, besides the body and a few lenses (what I`ve described in that previous post), I usually have an extra battery, that small add-on flash, and a body cap. I can squeeze in my cell phone (with a bit thicker case) inside the tablet pocket, but it`s usually not worth the hassle. Might be a slim power bank could work wonders in there, though.

Still, I kind of like the size-restrictive nature of the bag, as it helps keeping it small (and well shaped). Well, maybe I would like just a tad more room here, or there, but, yeah... Can`t have it all :P

Thank you. I think we’re likeminded... on camera bags at least:)

If the 5L has the tripod strap, it would be a sure thing for me.

I currently have the 5L and the 13" EDB - I had the 10L but as others have said the strap is not great (the EDB solves this)

After having all three i would recommend the EDB for the following:

1. It's slimmer on the back

2. 2" strap is comfortable and easier to adjust quickly vs the 5L

3. at it's slimmest it's an 8L bag and can expand to 18L if required.

4. outside side pockets for drink bottles (bottles not in bag)

5. No zippers, single one handed entry (also more reliable)

It really is a great bag I have lots of bags. Make sure to get version 2 with the flex fold dividers though so you can stack the lenses.

Hi,

I'm a bit confused, do you mean the 13" Everyday Messenger. I have the Mark 1 and it has no outside pockets for drinks, does the V2?

Thanks

Richard

This video may help -

I am also confused. I assume EDB = everyday backpack?

if so they come in 20 or 30ltr not 13”

however the everyday messenger come in a 13”

please clarify thanks

Sorry, yes EDM not EDB -typo on my phone.

Honestly think it is the best option if you want something inbetween. It's very comfortable especially in comparison to both slings which have thinner straps/padding.

They are not specifically drink pockets but having had both V1 in charcoal and V2 in Ash the pockets on the sides for V2 are larger and can fit a 500ml bottle on each side which i couldn't do on the V1. There are also magnets on these pockets to keep them tidy when empty.

Could someone chime in about the capacity of the smaller, 5L bag? Would I be able to fit an X-T20, 18-55, 35mm f/1.4, 27 f/2.8 and a Godox 350?. I think the answer is yes, as none of the lenses are particularly large, but am not sure.

It's not a very big bag, the X-T20+18-55 would take up 2/3 of the bag, then you could put the 35 on the bottom and put the shelf down and fit the 27mm on top. I don't think you would get the flash in. You may be able to get it in if you can fit the X-T20 with the lens facing the front but I don't think that would be possible.

When i'm out there is always something else I need to put in my bag like sunglasses, a jacket, something i collect along my way, water bottle etc. Don't you find you always need a little extra room?

Maybe if the bigger lens was off the camera it would fit better?

Some people are able to fit a decent amount inside. Here's an image from a review below. I find that a small bag would probably enough, as I use my pockets for most other items.
