A7RII to Z6

Do you have a source for a dumb one? I am talking to a 3D printer and didn’t want to wait for the Techart. Couldn’t find others...

FYI , Jim

just received mine - as you will see, pretty nicely made: good firm, but not over firm, engagement on Z6 bayonet and also on various e lens bayonet. mic'd it as 2.00 mm +.01 -.01 as expected

Interesting to see others considering the switch. I sold all my Sony gear a few months ago including my Voigtlander lenses such as the 65mm F2. I've had A7, A7II and A7RII. Got sick of the ergonomics and after handling both the Z and Canon R I recognized the difference instantly. Had some hands on time for two days with the A7III as well and I didn't think it had improved at all.

I'm hoping Voigtlander releases the 65mm for the Z and perhaps we'll get the 35mm 1.7 ultron natively at some point. As for now, I'm just shooting with my D700 and a ton of F mount lenses until I jump into Z mount. Soon enough....

Jim, related and unrelated at the same time. Have you ever gotten an actual measurement on the cover glass of the Z’s? Seems based on Kolaris initial comments as well as speculation it would be around the 1.8 mm number?

I don't have any way to measure that. I'm not like Roger and the Kolari folks who apparently think nothing of disassembling a camera.

Smart decision. I haven’t bricked any but an LCD refused to work after one foray into it...

Kolari stated 1.1mm but he doesn’t remove the final layer epoxied onto the sensor. That sensor on Sony is close to 0.7mm. If we assume the same on Nikon, being a Sony sensor, we should have 1.8mm. Of course that’s a big if. Nikon is said to spec their own sensor so to deviate from that 0.7mm cover glass is likely.

At any rate a Loxia 35 seemed to fall apart at 1.8mm so I’m very curious what you find with the L21.

Switched from Sony ARII to Nikon Z6 and very happy! Better ergonomic and incorporation of tool made with photography in mind. The EVF is a huge improvement and let you focus all manual lenses with ease. You can develop raw in camera (not possible with Sony A7 series) and customize your jpeg at a much higher level than with Sony. The colours of ooc jpeg with Nikon film simulations are another world...sorry Sony but your colour science remain behind. With Nikon I can do multiple exposures, again all in camera. Menu and touch panel functionality are a joy to be used. High ISO looks more natural with Nikon. NIKON Z6 STRONGLY SUGGESTED if you have photography in mind.

Bonus point: all your E mount lenses can be adopted with the nikon Z mount.

Curious if anyone has followed this path (or Z7). Mostly curious about how the AF compares to the older MkII Sony. Most of the chatter seems to compare the Z’s to the newer MkIII cameras.

Thanks in advance.

Interesting post. A7rIII here is selling at the same price as Z6 so..I wonder if there's any point. For me will be the lenses especially 14-35/4 and adaptability of my long F mount lenses.

Sony makes electronics, their cameras last few years only.

Nikon makes camera, their cameras last many years.

Are you talking about the life of the hardware? If so, I see no evidence whatsoever for your assertion. Perhaps you can provide some.

Where is here? There’s an 800-1000 difference in the US market...

That’s the worst argument I’ve seen on here in a while.
