I was on the fence but went ahead and pre-ordered the Z 14-30 f/4 today from Amazon. I like the zoom range. I can add some cost effective 3rd party primes when a better selections become available. I currently have the Z6 with the 24-70 f/4 and I'm very happy with it.

On the list at the local brick and mortar

Mine is on order. Not sure about the wisdom of my decision??? The lens by most accounts performs to an extremely high standard, so it’s is almost certainly very good. BUT....cost way too high! F4 yes OK keeps the lens a bit smaller but it feels like a F2.8 price. Plasticky, at this price hmmmm! Screw in filter ....fantastic but big at 82mm so again expensive. Zoom lock mechanism.......like the size hate the zoom lock!

Still, looking forward to receiving it.

How do you know that it is "Plasticky" without even handling it?

I would think that it would be up to the quality of the other Z lensed which in my opinion are very well made.

And Yes I do have it on order as well (-;

My anecdotal opinion from reading forum posts ever the last few months is that a lot of Z users want this lens. Nikon Japan also recently warned it may be hard to get due to pre-orders.

Have my pre order with Adorama

Yes, preordered with one of my local shops - Kenmore Camera. Based on my satisfaction with the kit lens, I don't think I'll be sorry.

Yes, and Nikon Australia throw in a AUD 200 cash back and 82mm NC filter bonus for pre-orders.

I think you will find that the bonus Nikon 82mm NC Filter is a retailer specific addition to the promotion. A little unusual to offer a A$200 cash back at time of release to secure orders up front - good ploy.

Rumor has it that they will also announce $A500 (Z6) and $A700 (Z7) cash back on the bodies soon.

The 24-70s which I love is a little plasticky and the reviews have similar comments about the 14-30. My assumption, possibly wrong, is that it’s construction will be quite similar to the kit lens. This is no big deal but sometimes at this price you may have expectations. And yes one of mine is lightness so maybe I have answered my own comment. Haha!

Would have love to have pro-ordered, but at the moment I'm spent up just buying the Z6 and 24-70 kit :-)

No doubt the 14-30S will be of similar construction as the 24-70S, and there are many who have expressed (IMO valid) concerns about how well these designs will stand up to heavy/long term use/abuse without possible image degradation, weather sealing fails etc. Jared Polin and others have expressed build quality concerns. My own camera dealer is very wary, as they've been burned by a number of major Nikon QC fails in the past; they tend to push Sony these days.

Yep. I'm hoping it gets here before my trip to shoot some landscapes on May 1st. If not, I'll have to bring the 14-24mm and adapter instead. Horrible life, really.

I pre-ordered and waiting patiently, was told they would be in this week according to the retailer. I put the $200 cash back towards the 50/1.8 S.

I'm not happy with the price of the 14-30 but for the size/quality and the money I saved getting the 24-70 f4 in kit, chances are I'll forget about the expense fairly quickly.

Also possible they may have a better cut with Sony to help sell cameras. Also a customer is more likely to buy several Sony lenses (switchers) than Nikon Z - it’s a bigger business for the store.

I didn't preorder, but I'm first in line at my local camera store ;) Used the SIgma 14-24 f2.8 this past week and it was way to bulky and heavy. Adding on the Lee adapter to use the SW150 Mark 2 system was a bigger pain in the ass. Looking forward to the 14-30. Even with the 82mm thread it's not nearly as bulky and heavy as the Sigma 2.8.

Yes it will have the same construction as the "kit" lens, but my no means is either a "kit" lens in the sense of the word.

The Adorama penalty may well come into play for me. They say it will be released the 18th, but can't promise it'll ship before they close. If it doesn't get shipped before that, it won't arrive til May.
