Thanks for the heads up! Faststone is a great program.

Yes, great news. Lucky version 7 finally brings full colour management with monitor profile support! I have also been asking for it for years, so just sent another donation. It will be great to be able to use it alongside LR Classic when I'm in wide gamut mode on my monitors. Only being able to use it in sRGB mode was very annoying, and I tended to use FastPictureViewer when in editing mode, as that has had full colour management from the off. The latter is still great for culling, as you can delete Raw+JPG as one.

It would be great if Faststone allows to show images from a list (containing file names from multiple folders)

Xnview can do it but crashes if list contains more than few hundred files.

Thanks, now back to recommending Faststone as the best free viewer cms was its one weak point for me.

Thanks for the heads up, downloaded and ready for use when next required :)

Can you suggest a test to see if this new FS feature is really working?

I looked at an aRGB jpeg image in PS, On1, and on desktop (using FS). Happy to see that all looked the same.

However when I turned FS-CMS (read monitor profile) off and on, no change to FS image. Confusing.

Mine didn't have the box checked after installation and looked OK, and no different to with it checked. I suspect it's on all the time now regardless. You might need to reboot for it to take effect. Try looking at files with strong reds in them under wide gamut, they used to look fluorescent.

Images (aRGB, jpeg) with strong reds and yellows, when viewed on my wide-gamut monitor using FS with CMS-monitor "off", are a lot more vibrant and over-saturated. With FS CMS-monitor "on" the colors are toned down a bit and the FS view matches the view in PS and On1.

That's good then Gerry. I'll have another check shortly on my system.

Here's a quickie screen grab comparison of FSIV w/ CMS & Monitor Profile on & off.

2.5 yr old laptop, eyeball monitor profiling to match prints. The "on" photo is close to what it should look like (old travel photo, Nikon P7800). Turning CMS on & off instantly changes rendering, don't have to close/re-open or re-boot. I used to use the portable version, but since CMS was added have been using the installed version because CMS didn't seem to work with the portable installation. That was my experience, anyway, YMMV.

And honest! It's the same picture!

A good series of colour management tests can be found on this DisplayCal website. You can download a pack of specially constructed icc profiles from the "Test Profiles" section -- they will show you if a program consults the monitor profile. You'll need to unpack the zipped file and temporarily install one of the test monitor profiles instead of your regular one -- it needs to be set as the default monitor profile (check in your system Color Management settings). After you've done your test, remember to reinstate your real monitor profile as the default one.

Yes, you can run more then one instance of FS, so you can set one to a dark skin and one to a bright skin to easally tell them apart. You can use the dark skin also with one instance running, of course.

Forgive my ingnorance but how do you get dual instances to run?

Open one copy, then open another from the start menu icon.

Thanks, so simple when you know how.

No problem. Rolling over the icon in the task bar will show thumbs for both instances, allowing you to jump between them.
