The Photography Show (UK) 2018 deals

NOT doing a deal.

Standard pricing

Lightroom CC plan £9.98 / month

Creative cloud photography plan (20GB) £9.98 / month

Creative cloud photography 1Tb plan £19.97 / month
Affinity do have a deal 50% I think.

I was dissappointed however that they only had a really tiny stand. It was like a bit of an afterthought really stuck out of the way near one of the demo areas. No real opportunity to have a play with the software because there were always a lot of people crowded around the one monitor they had.

Yes the Affinity "stand" was underwhelming, particularly as I asked one of the Show Help staff where it was and they said there was no such stand L1.

But when I tracked them down the folk there were friendly and with 50% discount off Affinity Photo I went away very happy.

Wow - super glad I bought the XQD card now! Sony have put their prices up!

Wex + LCE were selling the Sony G-Series 128Gb for £199
Their websites listed them as about £240-260

They are now £280 (LCE) £330 (Wex) !!!!

As per last year's thread, does anyone have information on good show deals at the UK Photography Show (running from today until Tuesday)?

If people are mainly going to buy cheap camera equipment, a better way would probably be to book a cheap holiday somewhere and reserve what you want an Dixons (in Gatwick or Heathrow). They had the Canon R for £1600 for example, when I was there in Saturday.

So anyone actually been? I live only about 10miles away and went last year for the first time, admittedly only to buy a printer. Didn’t find any ground breaking deals when I went, 10% doesn’t cut it :-)

was thinking about going today, pains me to pay entey fee though lol self confessed cheapskate lol

aslo I found out the hard way that your consumer rights are effected as its a “trade show” so better to buy online or in store... so no big purchases from shows ever again!

So would only buy small stuff from the show if I went, defo nothing electrical!

I'm afraid whoever told you that your consumer rights are affected because it was a 'trade show' are talking nonsense.

Your consumer rights are exactly the same as if you had bought the item in a shop.

Had a problem with the printer I purchased, the company refused to replace it, speaking with Citizens advice they said because its a “trade show” / “exhibition” then it isn’t covered by normal sales law, so I could not force the company to resolve or sort the problem out... went on for six momths and I gave up in the end.

So basically buy online or in a shop.

I learnt the hardway sadly.

citizens advice, apartly as its trade show it doesn’t come under nomral consumer law or whatever... this is what I was told by 3 people ovee several months of getting advice.

Why would they lie to me?

I wanted a refund as they had come out and tried to fix it 3 times and failed and I wanted to get them to replace the item due to the fact the fault was within the first six months and they couldn’t fix it on the first attempt...

I was told that If it was bought in a shop or online I couod of, as this was a trade show/exhibition then it wasn’t the same rights.

i tried everything to get around this and I just couldn’t.

No-one at Citizens Advice has lied to you, you have just been VERY bady advised. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies to all sales between a 'Trader' and a 'Consumer' regardless of where that transaction occurs. A 'Trader' is someone who is acting for purposes relating to their trade and a 'Consumer' is someone who is acting wholly or mainly outside their trade.

The only reason this might not apply in this case is if, for example, you accepted a discount that was only available to professional photographers. In which case it would be reasonable for the trader to assume you are not a consumer in this legal sense. Under the CRA a trader claiming that an individual was not acting for purposes wholly or mainly outside the individual’s trade must prove it.ie the trader must have proof that you were not a consumer (eg you bought the item through your company, etc.)

In any case 'trade show' means nothing legally and as the Photography Show is open to the public it cannot be a trade only show anyway.

Sorry, you were badly advised by the Citizens Advice, and have been lied to by the company involved. Contact a solicitor if it was expensive enought to justify the hassle and maybe share the name of the company here so we can avoid them.

Thank you for the clarification, I should have seeked advice from this forum as allot of people that know more than I.

Sadly, the issue I had with the item I bought even though was clearly defective, the manufacture of that item that did many service visits to try and resolve the issue ruled in a letter that the machine was not at fault and it that my expectations was too high, so once they had took a side on the matter I had no choice but to except the result.

Anyways, this a matter for a thread of its own.

On the statment I made, I’m clearly wrong but It was the advice given to me over months of trying to establish a resolution.

The issue was the item purchased was not avalible to the public, it was a business only purchase, i.e commercial.

either way, regardless of this I personally wouldn’t buy from a show again, only online as it seems your rights are more transparent. (Subjectively)
