So anyone actually been? I live only about 10miles away and went last year for the first time, admittedly only to buy a printer. Didn’t find any ground breaking deals when I went, 10% doesn’t cut it
was thinking about going today, pains me to pay entey fee though lol self confessed cheapskate lol
aslo I found out the hard way that your consumer rights are effected as its a “trade show” so better to buy online or in store... so no big purchases from shows ever again!
So would only buy small stuff from the show if I went, defo nothing electrical!
I'm afraid whoever told you that your consumer rights are affected because it was a 'trade show' are talking nonsense.
Your consumer rights are exactly the same as if you had bought the item in a shop.
citizens advice, apartly as its trade show it doesn’t come under nomral consumer law or whatever... this is what I was told by 3 people ovee several months of getting advice.
Why would they lie to me?
I wanted a refund as they had come out and tried to fix it 3 times and failed and I wanted to get them to replace the item due to the fact the fault was within the first six months and they couldn’t fix it on the first attempt...
I was told that If it was bought in a shop or online I couod of, as this was a trade show/exhibition then it wasn’t the same rights.
i tried everything to get around this and I just couldn’t.
No-one at Citizens Advice has lied to you, you have just been VERY bady advised. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 applies to all sales between a 'Trader' and a 'Consumer' regardless of where that transaction occurs. A 'Trader' is someone who is acting for purposes relating to their trade and a 'Consumer' is someone who is acting wholly or mainly outside their trade.
The only reason this might not apply in this case is if, for example, you accepted a discount that was only available to professional photographers. In which case it would be reasonable for the trader to assume you are not a consumer in this legal sense. Under the CRA a trader claiming that an individual was not acting for purposes wholly or mainly outside the individual’s trade must prove it.ie the trader must have proof that you were not a consumer (eg you bought the item through your company, etc.)
In any case 'trade show' means nothing legally and as the Photography Show is open to the public it cannot be a trade only show anyway.
Sorry, you were badly advised by the Citizens Advice, and have been lied to by the company involved. Contact a solicitor if it was expensive enought to justify the hassle and maybe share the name of the company here so we can avoid them.
