70-200 L IS lens from Dell was shipped by Airbourn 9/26

$1299 was the official price, some were able to get an additional 10 to 20% off that cost. Not me :( Oh well, 1299 is better than 1649! Just hope it ships in the next month or two. I ordered on 9-21, maybe I'll get it next month :)

When did you order yours and when is it due?

I will be suprized if mine ships on time, but it would be nice to get it by my birthday, on the 24th. (I'm planing to take the day off and go play with my 10D at the Zoo.)

I need like 3 more 2nd jobs. but then I'd never have time to take pics. gonna have to look for a cheaper 200-300mm lens.

The date on shipment was originally listed as 10-4. Now it is delayed. I take it to mean sometime between now and April '04. Oh well. I have an 80-200 L that works fine so I'm not hurting but I sure do want the IS.....

I hope yours makes it by the 24th but from what I've read around here with the number Dell sold and the quantity of orders, you might want to replan your zoo trip till next year......... Or maybe rent one just to get a taste... and as a birthday treat.....

It depends on where you look. In one location, mine shows as "delayed" and in another it shows as due to ship on the 6th. I just need to sit back and see. If the lens comes on time, I'll go to the Zoo (the National, in DC). If it doesn't I'll go to the aquarium (in Baltimore). As I'm only about 60 minutes from either one, and a member of both, its not a big deal - except that I want the lens now!

I just called my representative and was told that my order status is now "in production". does that mean that my order is being processed for shipment? if not, would it have shown as delayed? as of right now, the estimated ship date is Oct. 6th. Anyone else in the same boat?

If I look online it says unavailable, if I call their automated order status line it says Oct 1st. Guess we will see :)

Some people have talked to their salesperson and were told that it might take until 2/04 or 4/04. I've sent a couple of e-mails to my salesperson and left a voice mail, but I'm not getting any response. This is the same person who had sent Rob the e-mail with the print screen showing their cost, so maybe she's afraid to say anything at this point. Without hearing directly from my salesperson, I'm reluctant to believe the stories I'm hearing from others. My order still shows an expected ship date of 10/6 just like it did when I ordered on 9/24.
 
Harvey, i agree. When i hear from them what the status is, i'll believe it. Mine is scheduled to ship on october 2 (per 1-800 number). So i'll stick to than, and see how it goes. That woman seemed to be swamped from that day i posted the print screen onward. She even had a message after that day that "I'm in the office, and yes the lens is still available, please get a hold of me today to place this order"... I found that comical.

Thanks for the reply. Well, she just replied to another e-mail I sent right after that last post. She said wrote "I am trying to find out the ship date currently". I'll let you know if I hear anything more.
 
Sounds good. She sounds as competent as can be. She is the best DELL person i've ever spoken with. Very nice, very clear with her answers and absolutely will not give information out that she doesn't think is 100% correct. Very reliable sounding person.

and he about bit my head off. Said it is in production that it IS NOT on back order. That he put in an expidite oder when he took the order and it should ship soon and re stressed it is NOT on back order. Our salesperson is Richard if that hepls. He must be getting a few calls on this.
We will see I guess.

I ordered on the 23rd. When I look up my orders, it says in production. When I click on this link, it opens up a window that says delayed. And finally when I click on the order number, it shows me the order detail and it says expected ship date of 10/3. When I call the 1-800 number, it says the order is being processed as quickly as possible, later says 10/3 expected ship date.

Conclusion: I can believe what ever I want but there are no facts to back up what I believe.
