When was my camera made?

I've bought only Canon refurbs over the years and they are still working perfectly up to 10 years later. Even the batteries last long enough with the use I give them. I don't think it's a real concern.

My G16 has been getting more-and-more frequent "Lens error/restart camera" message indicating a stuck lens, jammed lens, or a malfunctioning lens

I've tried all of the easy steps (per http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html) but the problem persists.

I've contacted Canon and their estimate is over $200 US to fix the problem so I've decided to buy a new camera. (I'm looking at the Canon PowerShot SX60 (or SX70) or the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ80)

Did you know that Canon now has a program running for a 30% discount on any camera new or refurb from Canon direct with your non working Canon trade in? Unless it's stopped they still do.

Sadly that program (Canon Loyalty Program) is gone. It was great and I upgraded a few times under it.

My Canon PowerShot G16 camera's serial number is (21) 892053005067

What month and year was it manufactured?
Hey Garywc

I can't tell you exactly when your camera is made but if you have the original battery then it is marked with production date.

The camera is probably 2-3 months newer than the battery

This is from my G16. It is 2 months older than the camera.

battery made in August 2018. Camera bought November 2018

I bought my camera on January 30, 2015

My battery says 201409
Ok then your camera is made between these two dates, probably in November 2014.

If I buy a Canon PowerShot G16 today, will I be getting one that's been sitting on a shelf for 4 years or one that has been recently made?
Recently? Not likely. It was introduced in 2013. It's only available on Amazon from a 3rd party seller, and on B&H as a used model.

If I didn't have the original battery, I couldn't determine when my camera was made?
Maybe there are other options, I don't know about them. There is nothing in the serial number that shows when the camera is produced. I have used this method several times, but it only works if you have the original battery.

Canon in Europe can "de-code" my camera's serial number to arrive at the date the camera was manufactured.

But, when I gave them my camera's serial number, they said it was a U.S.A. serial number so I'd have to contact Canon USA.
