The G9 is about 200g heavier than the E-M5 and is much bigger. It's even bigger, although the same weight, as an A7 III. I don't think that's what those waiting for an E-M5 III want. It's out, it's USD 1,299 and it's called Lumix G9
A great answer. Except it is not exactly the same. It's out, it's USD 1,299 and it's called Lumix G9
I know, but since we may not see an E-M5 Mark III, maybe we have to look into the E-M1 Mark II (which is where I'm at in my thoughts!)A great answer. Except it is not exactly the same. It's out, it's USD 1,299 and it's called Lumix G9

Sacrificed to the burgeoning gap we see growing between the likes of the E-M10III and the E-M1II.The E-M5 was announced in Feb 2012.
The E-M5 II was announced in Feb 2015.
It is now Feb 2019. Is there any news of when the E-M5 III will be announced?
But this does not make any sense. When the gap increases, it is even more necessary to have a credible model in that wide gap that can sell.Sacrificed to the burgeoning gap we see growing between the likes of the E-M10III and the E-M1II.The E-M5 was announced in Feb 2012.

Exactly. Which is why a lot of us wait for an E-M5III.But this does not make any sense. just out of interest, what gives you the impression that there will not be a mark iii?Olympus has stated that they want 4 year cycles. Next cameras will be released in autumn when Olympus celebrate 100 years. Not sure that there will be a e-m5 III but there will be an upgrade path of some sort. The E-M5 was announced in Feb 2012.

Oh no! That means never. The GM5 line died when Sony released its RX100 VI. With such small cameras, buying and changing lenses are simply too much for most. Unfortunately, for the GM5 and most M43 cameras, Sony cameras have more advanced sensors pound for pound. The RX100 VI beats the GM5 in IQ.It’ll be the day after the GM5ii is announced
Still in the line producing,, sorry bit lateThe E-M5 was announced in Feb 2012.

I have the RX100iii, which has the same sensor. The images from either of my M43 cameras (EPL6 and GX85) are markedly better. It’s not even close. The fixed lens on the Sony is decent, but my cheapest prime (Panasonic 14mm) is better. The Sony may have more dynamic range, but I’ve never had issues with recovering shadows with my M43 cameras.Oh no! That means never. The GM5 line died when Sony released its RX100 VI. Apotelyt:
"Of the two cameras under consideration, the RX100 IV has a markedly higher DXO score than the GM5 (overall score 4 points higher), which will translate into better image quality. The advantage is based on 0.7 bits higher color depth, 0.9 EV in additional dynamic range, and 0.3 stops of reduced low light sensitivity."

If you don’t cannibalize your sales someone else will eat them. It really is that simple. What can they change on 5 iii that won't take sales away from X?
No room for something new, all occupied for ilc series.....makes you all think there’s going to be an EM5 III and not something new?
EM5II was advertised as the only photo/video oriented camera in the OMD lineup... they can't release the EM1X , the EM 1 and the EM 5 updates all in a short span.
I'd guess that the EM 5 will be next - and it better be with a new sensor - but it could easily be months away.
I'm not sure what you are asking. Weather sealing is of course desirable, summer or winter.the big benefit of weather seal is outdoor summer shooting
Olympus want to miss that?

Since the release of GX85 with IBIS 3 years ago, Olympus is behind Pana in same form+function category and if they release EM5 III with current sensors and technologies and price it at 1000$-1300$ range it is definitely going to be a flop (GX85 + 12-32 + 45-150 is priced at 600$ now!).
Current Sony 20 Mpix sensor is in too many MFT cameras right now (GX8, GH5, GX9, G9, Pen-F, EM1 II) and these cameras have been in the market for some time. Anyone who felt 16 Mpix was limiting, probably has bought one of these cameras by now.
It is necessary that EM5 III could offer a substantial improvement in tech to be relevant today. With EM5 II it was Pixel-Shift and LiveComp/LiveTime mode. I hope with EM5 III it would be global shutter and 4:2:2 10bit high bitrate video.
IMHO Olympus is doing the right thing not releasing EM5 III in near future.
Then we just need to have some official info. And move on.If so, it will kill em10iii and kill em1ii and Em1X.EM5II was advertised as the only photo/video oriented camera in the OMD lineup... they can't release the EM1X , the EM 1 and the EM 5 updates all in a short span.

They will not release em5iii due to em1ii as lower price options now behind em1x
But they will announce pen f ii probably , more make sense for Olympus
