Martin Evening covers all the new features of Photoshop CS in this PDF from his new book! The URL is: http://www.imagingrevue.com/open/What_is_new_in_CS.pdf

This PDF chapter is open to anyone but there will be a series of in-depth articles and tutorials on all the new stuff from the entire "Pixel Mafia" (Alpha and early beta testers) on the Imaging Revue site starting tomorrow (Histogram Palette). Open to subscribers only.

I'm not too happy about the new product activation. I have a licensed Photoshop at work and use a copy at home. I'm afraid I will have to purchase a version for home as well.

cheers

A copy?! Isn't that the same as pirating?

"I'm afraid I will have to purchase a version for home as well."

I have no sympathy for you at all.

What thing that has me curious is the System Requirements state:

"Intel Pentium III or 4 processor"

Does this mean that my AMD Athlon XP 1800 won't work with it?! LOL

Does anyone know if the EULA for CS will allow non simultaneous use on one desktop and one laptop?

Thanks for posting the link to that review, Andrew. Things that, for me, will justify the $170 upgrade are:
  • Editable keyboard shortcuts (at last!!)
  • more Camera RAW controls and better integration
  • Adjustment layers in 16bit mode!
  • a LIVE histogram palette that allows you to see what your changes in Levels and Curve adjustments (schweeet!)
  • the new Match Color adjustment that's supposed to match 2 images color and tonal range
  • Improved layers management which will allow for saved visibility states.
  • the new Shadow/Highlight image adjustment (drool)
  • the new Kodak photographic filters
Dave

And why not just V8?

My family is really boring. They have a coffee table book called 'Pictures We Took Just to Use Up the Rest of the Film.'

Hey Leo, I know what you are saying but I am pretty sure Adobe doesn't allow this unfortunately.

  • the new Shadow/Highlight image adjustment (drool)
This is a surprisingly good new tool. I have a tutorial on it's use. I was impressed in what it can do (once you understand the logic behind the 3 sliders per tone).

In a way, very similar to USM controls but producing edits over shadow and/or highlight with protection (or adjustment) to midtones. There's even color sliders to retain original appearance should adjustments hose the color. Pretty cool.

On their website, they have a FAQ about product activation. One of the questions handles this topic. They don't say it is allowed but they don't say it isn't either. Some kind of political answer which you can read anyway you want.

Adobe allows two copies for a single user (e.g. work & home) to be activated.
