Back story; I'm the other side of the pond here in the UK. I've been seriously eyeing up the new 8-16, but at £1800, it's just well overpriced.

I've noticed in the US the 8-16 has dropped down from $2000 to $1500 as of today, with a "$500 instant rebate".

For those of you who know Fuji better than me, should we be expecting the same sort of discounts over here in the UK? I'd be interested to know if we've got an impending temporary/permanent price drop, or another of Fuji's cash back's on the way.

Fingers crossed!

In Canada the 8-16mm (and some other red badge lenses) went on sale. The 8-16mm dropped over C$600 to about C$1,900.
That gives me a lot of confidence that we may see circa £1400 here in the UK - which I definitely wouldn't be able to resist!

What’s your thoughts on filters though with these sort of lenses, initially I was interested and then thought maybe just add the 9mm 2.8 to my kit, smaller lighter, filter thread, lose 1mm on the wide, but 10-24 remains the most flexible wide zoom around on any system.

It's not ideal, but it's the best option out there for me.

I only use protective filters, nothing else - the lens would be more for travel and may find a small use for weddings, no out-and-out landscape shots. I'd be picking it up more for the f2.8 & weather sealing than the extra width over the 10-24.

Don’t know about the UK, but the price drop on several of the lenses are the biggest I can recently recall. The 50-140 is only $1,199 at B&H. No rewards bonus though.

Edit: here in the US.

The 80 macro was also launched at a questionably high price and has seen significant price reductions since then. It seems to be new trend, as many other manufacturers are doing the same (eg the Batis lenses). I suspect it will come down, or at least be added into promotions.

I saw a similar $500 price drop on the 100-400 to $1399 on Amazon yesterday by CameraStop without tax and still today from Amazon.com with tax.

Thanks for posting! I purchased mine a few weeks ago, and Adorama honored their 30-day price guarantee. $500 store credit. Probably put it towards a Wonderpana filter.
