It came out well considering the max opt. zoom and additional crop. Looks like you're happy with your Sony.
Thanks Sreco and I am happy with the M4. I like the image quality and at 600mm, where I am often, it delivers nice sharp images..

David

A unique pose and shot. Lovely colours and of course, excellent details.
Thank you Rodger. And, as a matter of maybe interest, I abandoned CIZ and similar when I realised that over 600mm something other than me was deciding the focus point. It is maximum optical zoom and crop for me with the camera.

I was having, what I would call serious focus issues with my camera and until I posted something about it in the Sony forum, didn't know about that 600mm+ issue. I really thought I had a dodgy camera, but as it turns out, that's the way they operate. The Panasonics don't do that, so I had no idea that something different was happening. I assumed it was still operating on the "wide" setting that I had already set on the camera. I had been using Smart Zoom, not CIZ, but apparently it doesn't make any difference, it does the same with both.

Some birds that I've encountered on recent hikes

Always a treat to run into a Snowy Owl. I keep my distance and let them go about their business. FZ80

Great shots Mel, and of course the Snowy is outstanding!!

An excellent series of shots. The owl looks great and the long zoom of the FZ80 helps you keep your distance. The pipit is a cute little bird and that's a great image of it, plus the waders seem to be enjoying a bath in that very cold water. Bbrrr!

There's a lot of waders down here at the moment, having traveled 7-10 days non-stop from either Alaska, or Siberia. No sleep and no food, its an amazing endurance feat. Of course they're pretty spent by the time they get here.

Thanks Roger. I'm a big shorebird fan and I too never cease to be amazed by their ability to fly for days on end.

Excellent set, MelRuh!

I hope one day to see a Snowy Owl...even better the opportunity to see one.

all good.

Thanks ANAYV!

I hope you see a Snowy Owl too! They're truly awesome. I'll never forget how blown away I was the first time I found one....and every time since!

Where are you located? So they show up in your area?

An excellent series of sharp images Bassy. The white birds are really set off beautifully against the dark colours of the water.

You might not get too many comments on this, as you have posted this thread into someone else's, rather than have it as a stand alone thread, which attracts more attention.

Following a storm that brought eight inches of snow to S.E. Wisconsin, this wild doe in Kohler Andrae State park decided not to be bothered by my passing. I've owned my FZ1000 for three weeks, and think it's awesome!

A fine looking shot and the fur detail is excellent, also its in a great setting.

I fell in love with my FZ1000 virtually from the day I got it. Have fun.

Thanks ANAYV!
your welcome MelRuh!

I bet! I hope one day: )

Northern N.J.

I'm told Jamaica Bay wildlife refuge has them...but it's quite a ride for me to get there.

Are they only out in the winter?

Do they show up same areas in spring/summer?

thanks

I looked on the e-bird map for New Jersey. Most of the Snowy Owls show up on the long narrow islands along the Atlantic coast. And yes, some in Jamaica Bay.

They spend all summer in Northern Canada and start coming south in November. They are probably in New Jersey until mid-March and then they fly back up north. Some years are a lot busier than others. This year seems a bit slow.
