  1. Expose the image properly
(Most people get noisy high ISO is caused by underexposure )
(Display histogram in viewfinder to help expose image correctly)
  2. Exposing to the right (ETTR)
(Display zebra pattern in viewfinder to prevent highlight clipping )
  3. For still object, you can use Multi-Frame Noise Reduction (High).
  4. Shoot RAW and NR with DXO PRIME
  5. Use lenses with wide aperture to keep ISO as low as possible
    (F2.8 zoom or F1.4 prime)
  6. If possible, use flash to keep ISO low.

The DRO setting default is AUTO. Turn that OFF.
In case you shoot jpg, DRO lifts shadows (that is a simplified description of what it does in reducing total image contrast) but leaves RAW unaffected. The noise you see may come from DRO doing its thing in AUTO.

If you want to use DRO, try the various manual levels to see its impact and see what you like (or not). In AUTO, there is no indication how "much" DRO was applied.
Cheers,
Ralf

You can shoot with MultiFR NR if you can stand that the output is jpg exclusively

I shoot up to 25600 ISO (RAW)....always expose properly (underxposure will result in poor images) and use DXO Prime NR...its a killer program

I shoot RAW and pay close attention to the histogram - sometimes ;-)

A good exposure is key. I use Lightroom. If I want to reduce the noise, I crank up the noise reduction, and use a mask layer with adjustment brush to reduce the noise back to my liking on the parts with nice detail. Here's three recent ISO-1600 examples.

Question: What do you do all week?
Answer: Mon to Fri. Nothing, Sat & Sun I rest!

Don't pixel peep high ISO images. The A68 doesn't have much noise until you go above ISO 3200. What cameras are you comparing it to?

I tend to shoot wildlife and crop a lot seam to end up with a lot of noise above 800iso

It will be great, if you don't mind share us a image you feel too noisy at high ISO.

It is difficult to judge without seeing a real image. May be it is normal for an APSC camera.

You can upload the image to Dropbox or Google Drive in Raw format and share us the link to download.

If you always shoot image at high ISO, I highly recommend you try DXO PRIME.

Check if you expose for the part in your frame that you crop into. Spot metering may help. Of course this is guessing, lacking any picture examples from your side. Post samples as requested earlier in this thread so that the forum 1037 community can provide more specific feedback.
Cheers,
Ralf

Post a sample so we can see what you consider "a lot of noise". That way we can see if we think it's more noise than you should be getting or if you are being unrealistic in your expectations.

sorry I have been busy and haven't had to check back on this thread. I will try to find a pic to post

This could be your issue, cropping as your actually enlarging the noise making it more noticeable.

Longer telephoto lens and better field craft may help you out more .

I often shoot bands and such and noise is just part of the course but I manage half descent shots up to iso 6400 with the a68 ( just don’t crop or pixel peep).

Not really because cropping is the same as zooming in on the image. I think your point is if if you get close enough so cropping or zooming isn't necessary then it's true, you will see less noise unless you zoom in.
