That's great news as they got rid of the apps store so A7Rii had the time lapse app option and A7Riii lost it.

Also it has a sensitivity setting for the auto exposure so you can do day/night transitions.

Competition is good - guess Sony had to offer this now (clever strategy offering something which should have been there in the first place - well, keep us happy)... ;-)

Getting more used to post processing my Sony files for astrophotography now, finding some workarounds and then some. Looks rather promising...

Now that Sony updates the time lapse functionality there might be some hope for a fixing those lovely hexagons and the turn-stars-green-star-gobbler-feature. At least hoping...

The Time Lapse app was only $10 in their app store and I was allowed to install it on all three of my Sony cameras for that amount. So no big deal as far as cost. But if the newer cameras no longer had access to the app store, then they should have put that app on them from the git go. My Sonys are all older models.

I notice that it says "time lapse movies." This may mean that it will only be able to create in camera time lapse videos, presumably in 2k or 4K. This time lapse video feature feature is one of the options currently in the Playmemories app. If this is what they're talking about, as opposed to allowing it to create full res raw images like the app does, then this firmware solution would be totally worthless for any serious time lapse work. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I had considered buying an R3 when they came out, but didn't because of the lack of support for the app. I considered it a big deal. Instead, I bought a couple more R2 bodies at the greatly discounted prices.

I did see the menu's on a You Tube video. Also the updated Imaging Edge software has some features about creating the time lapse so it may be you can shoot in RAW.

I would also like it to do a simple "take 8 shots at 30 seconds in RAW" type nightscape set. If it let you expose longer than 30 seconds that would also be a big plus but I doubt it.

Hopefully, it will have all the features that the app has, if so, it will be impressive. If not, it will be a shame.

Guess the intervallometer will support still images, RAW and JPGs.

Would be very odd to provide a stills camera with a movie function only. After all the Sony A7 and A9 series are primarily still cameras - not camcorders.

The store app only allowed 1 image and sets of 30 images up to 990 total. So hopefully the built in app will be more configurable. I'm not sure why Sony put so many senseless restrictions on the store app, but they did...
