Something must happen now. I know lot of photographers including myself who are discussing to leave Nikon and buy Canon.
Give us a hint that something is going on

I agree, If this were a new film based F6 replacing the F5 it would not be a problem since that is such a mature market, but for a new technology it is very important to give customer's some hint of direction of the product line. I know they are trying to protect D1x sales, but trying to apply old marketing plans to a new technology can do serious harm to any company. If they don't want to do any official announcement's they should at least have their sales weasel's dropping hint's to their retailer's of what to expect. I have spent 10's of thousands on Nikon over many years and don't plan on switching now, but they need to go back to sales and marketing school. Look what inept marketing did to Kodak.

I've personally been waiting for months for an announcement about
the D2x.

Now that the D2h already has been delayed (purportedly another month) I am not surprised that there would not be an announcement for the D2x.

Also I am not sure what the annoucement would do. It is ABSOLUTELY clear in my mind that it will be a 1.5 DX sized sensor (as Nikon has stated repeatedly). It will probably be in the 8-11 megapix range and use the AF system similar to the announced D2h.

I would hypothesize the earliest release would be next Summer. Personally I want to hear about the possiblity of VR in LONG telephoto primes....though I think that is not going to happen with the release of the 200-400 VR.

Nikon decided to put the D2H out at this point to ensure that it would be usable at the Olympics next summer. They most likely delayed the launch of the D2X because of this.

I also believe that it will have an APS sized sensor. It will not have a foveon sensor.

What lenses and other items do you have from Nikon that I can make you a deal on when you jump to Canon?

I am not leaving Nikon. I am encouraged by the price point of the D2h. If only wish Nikon would drop the price of their long telephotos to something similar to Canon's. (almost a $1000 disparity between the 300's and almost $2000 between the 400's)

I wish I was making more $$ with my photography so that I could afford investment in both systems. BTW the only Canon lens that I covet that has no Nikon equivalent is the 200mm F1.8 with USM. Supposedly that is being discontinued and can be purchased for 2700. That would be my first Canon lens if I used that system.

I would love to have a 200 1.8. that would be a truely awe inspiring lens and I would use it all of the time.

Your original post sounded like you were going to bail to Canon and dump your Nikon gear is all. :-)

Oh Gawd!! Can you name a single reliable source where Nikon has stated "repeatedly" that the D2x will have a DX sensor. To the best of my knowledge, Nikon has not even hinted that a D2x exists or will ever exist.

This is like the numerous posts where Nikon stated repeatedly that they would never go full-frame.

If not FF.. hope that with D2X Nikon will enlarge the viewfinder or magnify it, and give attention to obtain a better sharpness perfomancein the wide range than with D100.

But what I particularly would appreciate is a clear direction: only one line: FF or APS size for the whole production both pro and amateur... so to let us decide what to do with DX lenses..

Im doing the same if nothing happens soon.

NIKON should say something NOW !!!

G-Man

I wouldn't go running to buy a Canon 1DS. I am selling mine right now after giving them an open-minded opportunity to earn all my business. I am a Nikon photog at heart and I must say, after using the 1DS for a couple of months, Nikon's are better systems (IMO). Even though they got some things right, there were more cons than pros...by far. So I am waiting and I know they will deliver as they did with the D2H...just later than I would have liked. So if any of you want to switch now, check out my ebay auction, item #:2955473098

Please switch to Canon, that will leave more Nikons for the rest of us.

It is better to take one step at a time then many steps at once.

the financial report shows a big minus ! and on first oktober they terminate all the management and put new peopel in there! see http://www.nikon.co.jp !

so I think they will first try to handle ther own troubles and then make maybe one day new cams !
